SOURCE: I have the date in

Hi

If you go to usa.canon com and search for 'a590', click on the link for the camera then click on 'drivers and downloads', now you will see the user manual in PDF format 4th on the list. You will find the instructions on pg 22:

Put the camera in shooting mode, set to auto, then press "Func Set" and use the down arrow to scroll down to the bottom row. Use the left/right arrow keys to unhighlight the date/time stamp and put it on "L" for the highest resolution setting for your camera.

Hope this helps. Good luck from Darntoothysam com (an affordable digital camera repair business)

SOURCE: Having to reset date and time

Solution: Replacing the date battery PowerShot A510 and A520

Replacing the Date Battery If the Date/Time menu appears when the camera power is turned on, the date battery charge is low and the date and time settings have been lost. Please purchase a lithium coin battery (CR1220) and replace it as follows.
Please note that the first date battery may appear to expire relatively quickly after you purchase the camera. This is because it is installed in the camera at the point of manufacture, not when you make the purchase. caution_a70.gifBe particularly careful to keep the date batteries out of the reach of children. Seek medical assistance immediately if a child swallows a battery since corrosive battery fluids could damage the stomach or intestinal wall.

  1. Confirm that the camera is turned off.

  2. Open the terminal cover and use your finger nail to pull out the battery holder.

    date_battery_1.gif

  3. Pull open the battery holder in the direction indicated by the arrow (1). Remove the battery by pulling it up in the direction indicated by the arrow (2).

    date_battery_2.gif

  4. Insert a new battery with the ( ) side facing up.

  5. Replace the battery holder back and close the terminal cover.

  6. When the Date/Time menu appears, set the date and time.

note_icon_a70.gif After purchasing the camera and turning on the power for the first time, although the Date/Time menu will appear, you do not need to replace the date battery. If you ever dispose of your camera, first remove the date battery for recycling according to the recycling system of your country.

SOURCE: I have a Canon Powershot A560. The date and time

Think your problem is that you are looking in the wrong spot. Don't know why your manual is telling you to look there (are you sure your manual is for the A560)?
Your CR1220 date/time battery is located in the regular battery compartment. Look right beside your AA batteries. You'll see a little flap labeled "CR1220". Slide this open with your fingernail, and take the little coin battery down to your local drugstore to buy a replacement.

When you say "the 2 batteries" are you including the date battery? See the "Replacing the Date Battery" section beginning on page 120 of this manual.

The date and time will not stay set. I set the date time . take pictures and when I shut the camera off. the next time I turn it on the date and time is zeros again...

The world of compact digital cameras is fast and furious blink and you'll miss the new model. These pocket point and shooters are cram packed full of features that most people neglect to utilize. So it's uncommon for the problem you describe to occur however it's simple and fairly inexpensive to repair. What you need is to replace the camera's internal battery which holds the custom functions and date time settings after the camera has been shut off. Normal internal battery life is greater then five years and a lot of my cameras go ten years before replacement. A camera store not your big box type but one that actually sells cameras and does film and print processing. I don't know where you are to even suggest someone. However at the bottom of the camera where you would place the memory card and batteries there is another slot for the internal battery. This link half way down the page will show the open battery door and where the internal battery is located.

There has been few complaints or problem with this camera except for the very weak internal flash.

Need to set date and time at each starting. have changed 1220 battery what could be the reason

It sounds like you or the camera is not saving the settings. Refer to your manual for a step-by-step setting of the time. You're probably just not hitting some "save" key.

The Canon Powersht A470 has a small button battery

This is the date battery. Ir remembers the date and time when you remove the AA batteries so you don't have to reset the date/time each time you replace the main batteries. Check page 159 in the manual (or somewhere around there) for information. The battery type is CR1220 (a fairly standard type), and should be available at electronic stores.

Canon A450 internal battery problem?

There are cameras with 'fixed' internal batteries to maintain date/time they are long lived and not usually replaceable.
If this is such a model and it is new then a replacement should be forth coming from the vendor or Canon.
The vendor is the first stop then Canon support
