I have bought my first SATA hard drive and installing it in my computer. I have a SOYO SY-KT600 Dragon Plus mobo. On boot up it does not show the drive has been recognized as well as windows does not recognize the drive. I don't see any place in the bios to change something to make it recognize it. I have the drive connected to the SATA port on the drive with a SATA cable and power is through a "legacy" ATA power plug. It also appears that there is supposed to be a jumper on pins 1 and 2 that is missing on my drive. Looking for help with this issue.
Hi, A couple of ideas: 1. There are 3 versions of this motherboard: Dragon Plus, V1.0 & V2.0, perhaps your BIOS needs an update to be able to recognize the new HD. This of course would require flashing; 2. There are two variations of a WD SATA hard drive: Serial ATA amd Serial ATA II; 3. Re Jumper settings: the eight-pin jumper block is only used to enable power management on the drive. There are no master/slave settings since there is only one drive per cable; 4. If you are fresh installing Windows on it, you need to press F6 when asked by the Windows Installer and follow on-screen instructions. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information.

Re BIOS, just might work updating/flashing. However before doing so, do you have any SATA options in your CMOS/BIOS? If none, how about RAID? Perhaps you can give that a try.
As initially posted, when installing Windows, there is an option to press F6 when installing on a drive that is not IDE.

Copy that you have flashed the BIOS and no more access to RAID. Flashback to the old BIOS. Likewise verify that you have the correct model/version.
I know that this sounds redundant but there is no other alternative but to patiently work this out (or get a newer board which does not sound so appealing).

After a successful BIOS flash, you have to set the CMOS/BIOS to Default settings initially.

...Typically, Windows XP installer does not provide full support for SATA HDs (drives) nor for all kinds of SATA Controllers (on the motherboard or add-on card).
However, Windows XP installer provided a way out by prompting the user to press F6 and load the necessary drivers in the FDD. The diskette containing the drivers may either come from: manufacturer of motherboard; manufacturer of controller; or manufacturer of HD.
If none was provided nor available, then perhaps you can DIY (do-it-yourself). More often than not, it is inside the MB installer/driver CD in D:\Drivers\SATA or something like that and copy to a floppy diskette. Alternately, you can download from the manufacturer's website, decompress and copy to FD.
When the Windows XP installation CD puts out the message "Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver", press "F6" as instructed. Thereafter, press "S" to specify additional device on the next pop up screen. Insert the driver floppy disk in and press enter to continue. If the floppy disk is made
successfully, the installation program will ask for selecting driver. Please then select "Motherboard chipset (VIA, Intel etc Serial ATA RAID Controller(Windows XP)".) After the SATA driver loaded, Windows XP will now recognize the
SATA HDD, proceed and continue to install Windows XP.

WD 1TB sata II has jumper pins that reduce from 3 Gb/s to 1.5 Gb/s.
This fixed my problem with older M/board.
Seagate 1TB sata still isn't recognised and disables RAID.
Try the jumper on pins 5&6 for WD drives to 'slow' the data rate.
make sure that the leads are in there correct slots
One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

I have the SY-KT600 Dragon Plus mobo and first generation serial ATA WD800JD hard drive The board has two SATA ports. Would it be that the bios needs an update to recognize the WD800JD hard drive even though it has SATA ports?
I have now flashed the bios and tried putting a jumper on pins one and two on the drive. No luck. Since flashing the bios windows says the raid controller cant be started. I tried uninstalling the raid controller in the device manager and reinstalled it with no luck. I have checked the settings in the bios against those recommended by SOYO and still no change.
