Won't fax or receive

Changed cartridge and received "press enter to align cartridge" message. Pressed enter then setup and this seemed to reset machine as time and date message appeared. When I try to fax I receive message as "No Answer" on other end, but their fax machine is operating. I cannot receive. Anyother suggestions to reset machine.

Have you tried the phone line the printer is connected to, to see if there are any problems with it? You should hook that phone line directly to your phone and call the fax number thats giving trouble and see if you get a fax tone. If you have to request 1 that might be your problem right there.

Is the printer printing at all? and are you using it directly with a phone line or through the computer modem?

You need to check the cable that goes to the wall.. Make sure it is plugged into the plug on the printer that says "line" or "wall" if it is plugged into the one marked phone... it will most likely not work.

After that (if it doesn't work) go through the setup procedures the manufactures manual has for that model

If you lost it your in luck HP has everything you need here:

Hi,

Follow the steps one by one

1. Press the Setup button - Press OK
2. Scroll to Tools - Press OK
3. Press OK on Run Fax Test
4. It will list you possible causes why you are not able to send/receive fax

If you cannot solve the issue with the Fax Report, you can do a semi-full reset on printer
( do not do the semifull reset on printer if connected to wireless, If you do so, the printer will loose wireless connectivity to router and you will have to setup the printer on router again )

Disconnect the power cord from back of printer ( when printer is powered on )
Hold the # and 6 button and while holding connect the cord back

This reset will Erase fax logs, wireless connectivity any other memory stored in printer

Follow the instructions on printer screen to re-align the printer and cartridges

You should load paper and press enter to align, The message will keep coming back until you let it do alignment or press enter and option buttons at the same time.

Will not fax

Hold down the enter button 1rst then press the setup button. This will bypass the annoying align cartridge problem. For some reason it does this because the cartridge you bought was refilled then sold again. Your welcome!

Cartridge alignment

Hi,

I understand that you are receiving the message to align print cartridges when ever you print.

This happens due to various of reasons.

Below are the possible causes of the issue that you are experiencing with.

The most common reason is an ink cartridge that has one of the following problems:
1.One of the print cartridges is low or out of ink. Black and all three colors must available.
2.The paper has already been printed on or is colored paper.
3.Protective tape on a new print cartridge has not been removed.
4.Contacts on the print cartridge are not meeting the contacts in the print carriage correctly.
5.Cartridge is remanufactured or refilled. Refilled or remanufactured ink cartridges may have been damaged during the refilling process or have clogged ink nozzles.

6.The print cartridge is defective.

So, make sure that ink cartridges have sufficient amount of ink and are of genuine HP should not be refilled or remanufactured.

Clean the cartridges by following the below given instructions:

Using a clean, dry lint-free cloth (a coffee filter works well), wipe the cartridge contacts, from the top to the bottom. The contact area of the cartridge should be rubbed briskly to remove the waxy lubricant material from the gold contacts. The contacts inside the printer may also require cleaning. Using a clean, dry, lint-free cloth, gently wipe the contacts, from the top to the bottom.

Align the print cartridges by following below given instrucions:
To align the cartridges from All-in-One

1. Press Setup.
2. Press 5, then press 2. This selects the Maintenance menu, then selects the Align Print Cartridge option. A page prints to confirm alignment. You can either discard or recycle this page.

Even if the issue persists, bypass the alignment by following the below given instructions:

Press Enter and Setup simultaneously when align message is prompted on the All-in-One.

Please remove the All-in-One Printer from the Power Surge Protector and plug it directly into a wall Power outlet, as the surge protector may not provide enough power to printer.

Please perform the step given below to power cycle the unit after removing the print cartridges from the printer:

1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one from power and disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug in the power only
4. Repeat steps 2-3 two more times.
5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power, reconnect the USB cable from the all-in-one to your computer.

Reset the All-in-One to the factory default settings by using these instructions:

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on and wait for 20 seconds.

2. Then, press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.

Continue holding until it displays Semi Full Reset message in the front panel of the All-in-One.

Note:
A semi-full reset will do the following:
The user settings to the factory defaults, Language and country settings on some models, Fax logs, Fax headers, Fax speed dial information.
This should resolve the issue.

Regards,
Lawrence
