Samsung R155 Recording from VHS Issues

When I record from a VHS to my DVD recorder I am able to play it back on the DVD recorder but not on any other DVD player and not even on my PC as they see it as a blank disk but its not as it can be played back on the recorder that recorded it. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    lost manual how to finalize

  • lovelylowa Aug 29, 2008

I have a new 2008 Toshiba DVD recorder D-R7KC and have made several recordings onto OSI Dvd+r discs. I have finalized them, but I'm still experiencing the same problem...the Disc films or codes will not show up on OTHER players.

So is it the brand OSI that is obsolete. or is my 2003 Hard-drive system too old for the new technology of recorders??

  • marebear_7 Jan 12, 2009

I have the same problem, I recorded a few shows last night on the D-R7KC. I came to watch it this morning on another DVD player (Phillips) and it is reading error disc...

The discs that I record with is memorex DVD-R. I usually use TDK D-R, could that be the problem???

Can I still finalize the disc if I have already taken it from the recorder, or I have to do it before I take the disc out? I just assumed it finalized it for you. After I recorded one show before it said that it was finalizing with a round swirling picture on the the front of the display.

One more question I have star choice, so Iam not sure if there is something more I can do, to make the dvd run better.

The reason why you are having this problem is because you haven't finalized the disc. In able for you to play that Burned DVD that you have you need to Finalized the disc. Finalizing a recordable optical disc means writing the disc's lead-in (the Table of Contents or TOC) and lead-out information (blank data that fills up the unused space at the end of the disc) so that a DVD player will know where the various tracks begin and end. Without the TOC, a conventional DVD player will not be able to read the contents of the disc. Once the disc is finalized, no more information can be written to it. Finalizing takes about two or three minutes. To finalize a DVD-RW/DVD-R: 1. Press the Menu button with the disc stopped. 2. Select Disc Manager and press Enter or the right arrow. 3. Select Disc Finalize and press Enter or the right arrow. You will be asked twice if you are sure that you want to finalize the disc. Select Yes and press Enter. Once the disc is finalized, you cannot delete entries from the record list. After being finalized, the DVD-R/DVD-RW (video mode) operates in the same manner as a DVD-Video. Recorded discs must be finalized in order to play back in non-Samsung DVD players. A DVD-RW disc that has been recorded by DAO (disk-at-once mode) in a PC cannot be unfinalized. A DVD-RW disc that has been recorded in Video Mode on a non-Samsung recorder cannot be unfinalized by a Samsung recorder. A DVD-R disc cannot be unfinalized. Note: Finalization does not apply to DVD-RAM. If you cannot finalize a DVD-R or DVD-RW disc, make sure that Disc Protection is turned off. If you are still having difficulty, you may try calling technical support of SAMSUNG. Note: Do not turn the recorder off while it is finalizing the disc. Data on the disc will be damaged if the finalization process is interrupted.

Unlocking the actual (safe)dvd/vhs button (as i don’t have remote) on front of LG9120W machine ...?? pls Help ??????

f the entire VHS is full then you can easily transfer the VHS contents to the DVD. The video will play while it is recording onto the DVD, but you don't have to have it hooked up to any TV for it to record. Now if you don't know how long the VHS content is that you want to record to DVD, then you will have to hook up the player to a TV so that you can press stop when you reach the end of the content you want recorded. At least this is true in the way that I use to transfer VHS to DVD:

1) Turn on the unit
2) Insert VHS tape
3) Insert DVD-+R or DVD-+ RW
4) Using remote, press VCR
5)Using remote, press play then pause the tape where you want to start recording.
6)Using remote, press DVD
7) Using the remote, press DUBBING. The VHS should start to play and the DVD should start recording

When using this method, don't hit the RECORD button!

I have a Panasonic DMR-ES30V. I've only ever recorded from what I'm watching on the TV to a DVD. I now have a VHS tape that I'd like to record to DVD. I tried starting the dvd to record...

Most Combo Recorders (VHS and DVD) will prevent you from
recording a Copyrighted VHS tape program onto DVD.
Try recording a TV program onto your VHS tape, then
transfer it to your DVD and see if your new DVD recording
will work or not.

How to record a vhs tape to dvd on a samsung 1080

Hello

1.The VHS/DVD player must have recording capabilities.

2 Connect both players to a television so that you can make sure you are recording the appropriate content. You can also monitor the speed at which the VHS is copying to DVD.

3. Place the VHS in the VHS player and the blank DVD in the DVD recorder. You will need to use your remote and go through the menu options to choose the correct format for recording. The formats should be clearly labeled and outlined in your instruction manual. Choose the option that will read something like "VHS to DVD." You may also have to choose recording speed, which varies per blank DVD that you purchase. Every player is different, and every menu will vary slightly. If you have questions, refer to you individual manual.

4. Select the option that works best for you and hit "Play" on the VHS player and "Record" on the DVD recorder. To play the finished DVD, you will select the playback option.

I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9. I follow all directions in manual for dubbing VHS home movies to DVD but when I try to play the DVD back there's nothing on them. What am I doing wrong?

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.

DVD created on my Samsung R155 won't play on other playes or PC

check the output formats the machine is writing to disk and then compare the players formats they are being used in
could be your disk type ie format type - Minus (-) or Plus (+)

One disk is better for data and the other is better for DVD video

Samsung DVD Recorder R155

Sounds like you recorded from a camcorder attached to AV2 (front of DVD player). Press the STOP button, then open the menu and finalize the disk.

Recording on DVD-R with Samsung DVD-R155

Heating issue. If you remove the cover and touch the processor chip - you will not be able to keep your finger there for more than a second (that is if your really want to use this crude method to test the temp).

I have taken measurement and its around 50C. Thats a lot for no heatsink or cooling fan.

If you have the unit in a cabinet with no air flow - you will not be able to use this unit for more than 3 months and up to a year. Best to have it on top of a cabinet or in one with an open front and back to allow some airflow - or just anywhere where its in the open.

Samsung has another unit - the AR650, which I believe is discontinued - which for some strange reason has realized this concern. My guess its a whole different team of designers (or at least some folks with some brains) and added a cooling fan into the unit. Its the same exact case and motherboard as the 135, and 155. There are absolutely no issues with it rejecting disc's - even after a year of use for some users.

In Summary:

Solution 1 - Place it in the open
Solution 2 - Remove case and drill holes to the topside
Solution 3 - Remove case and add a fan
Solution 4 - Remove case and add a heatsink over proc (will still need to drill holes over heatsink..
Solution 5 - We can all complain to Samsung and have them recall the units
