  • Anonymous Feb 18, 2008

When I turn on the unit, the "F61" appears on the screen, then the unit shuts down. The unit is less than two years old. Hope you can come up with a solution. Seems like others are having the same problem. This might be something Panasonic might want to fix.....

I've had my system a little over a year and I get the F61 error also. Right before I got the error, it started making noises.....I figured it was the fan. Does anybody know where I can buy a replacement fan?

I had the same problem it took four or five e-mails to find the fans
I found them at the site below

www.pstc.panasonic.com/Epartr/PartsDone.asp

P/N. L6FAJCCH0007 FAN MOTOR (THIS IS THE REAR FAN)
P/N. L6FAYYH0001 FAN UNIT (THIS IS THE SIDE FAN)

Hope this helps

Being a factory trained (Secaucus, NJ) and authorized Panasonic repair technician for over 25 years, I can tell you there are at least 10 listed reasons for an F61 code to appear.

Yes, stuck fans are a possibility. This usually occurs with new units stored for an extended period of time out of the "normal" temp/humidity range recommended (often basement / attic or garage. Getting them to spin again will usually allow the lube to fully access the bearing, solving the problem. Usually using 1 Watt RMS output should get them both spinning.

The other common failure is excessive volumes, blowing the power ams and possibly the regulator system. Also, using ANYTHING beyond the 6 Ohm speakers provided or not wiring them properly will smoke the amps almost immediately. The power amps have differential digital outputs, which in laymens' terms, ARE HOT TO ANY OTHER CONNECTIONS. There is NO common ground like older systems and because of the power capabilities of the output ICs, you're basically "crowbarring" the system faster than the safeties can react. Say Goodnight Gracie...

Good luck, Bugman

Bugman here again. The troubleshooting procedures needed to go over the entire F61 issues would take 4 pages. Panasonic outlines the whole thing on their technician website, but is accessable only to us factory guys. Just having schematics doesn't help an awful lot. Easiest checks are :

1 - DC on ANY speaker output (over .3VDC) before it goes into shutdown. In that case, the output IC is shorted and the part is about $111 from both Panasonic and Tritronics last time I saw.

2 - Either fan is running too slow or not spinning at all. They're not designed to be taken apart, but it's possible to carefully disassemble and hit the journal bearings with turbine oil - should hold you over until it can be replaced.

3 - You have DC power problems and screwed - take it to an AUTHORIZED center. The thing's a ***** to take apart and power up safely, let alone track all the power issues and safety loops. It's not something you can figure out sitting at the dinner table with a cup of coffee...

I got the F61 error and just tapped the side and for now it went away and the system is back to normal. Lets see how long this last. I also ejected the disc holder and spun it a few times.

The rear cooling fan PN 5010L125 is not turning. The fan has an output to tell the circuit board that it works.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a fan for this thing? My F61 code is due to the fan and I'm going to try and replace it myself - if I can find the part.

These units are failing thick and fast now and the parts are hard to come by except from other failed units which is always risky. My advice is that if sound has failed on any one speaker output and some simple cleaning of the fan or replacing it with a computer fan does not fix the problem, then it is time to buy a new Home Theatre System. I am the last person to ever want to consign things to the tip.........but even WE have to go there some day eh?

Merry Christmas everyone. If you appreciate my many contributions to Fixya.com over the years you are invited to support my work by visiting my own compositions music website at:-

I get this error usually once during a movie. Sometimes it is 10 minutes into it, sometimes it is an hour, and the only thing I have ever been able to do to get it to work, is to unplug the black power cord from the unit, for 20 seconds, and then reconnect it, and it usually works for the remainder of the movie. Would like to see a better fix, however!!

SOURCE: Panasonic SA-HT740

The F61 fault means the fan needs to be replaced. My system had the same problem and the fan was making a terrible noise. I had this repaired and the system is as good as new. Although I have the SA-HT995 system, it sounds like the same fault.

Hi
this error comes when you keep your device powered all the time.

look for condensers that are popped up or seems to be
change it with same type and voltage

What f16 means

are you sure its not "F61" ?
it mean Check and correct the speaker cable connections

PROBLEM F61 ON MY EQUIPMENT AND SHUT DOWN

You possibly took out the output ic by crossing speaker wires or touch one to the case when the other was in the terminal. (turn off and unplug when moving speaker wires)

Before taking it in remove all wires unplug power cord wait 30 seconds and plug just the power cord and turn on. If it still goes to f61 it's going to most likely need the output ic replaced.
$70-90 labor and about $100 for the part.

Panasonic SA-HT740

Think I got it. Check your fan. Power it on and see if the fan spins for a few seconds and then stops. This is why mine kept giving me the F61 code and powering down. Remove the cover and use an air duster on the fan. This may not be enough so if you must, remove the fan (two screws + 2 clips) and pop it out of its housing. Dust the blades off and gently pull the fan away from its center as if you were trying to separate the two. There should be about a 2 or 3 mm gap there now. Dust that out and I even sprayed some lube (WD40) in for good measure. Put it all back together and make sure the fan spins and is quiet when you power up your system.

So far it's working for me. Good luck!
