Kodak esp7250, I tried to refill my ink cartridges with a kit that came with replacement chips, now I keep getting error code 3603, not able to recognize color ink cartridge. I put in an original and it is still giving me the same error. i called Kodak and they sent me a free ink cartridge. I installed it and still the same code. There is a lockout mechanism that I have not been able to figure out how to get around and Kodak refuses to admit it. Kodak is well known to put lockout mechanisms in their printers. They did try to sell me a used refurb hero tho.

SOURCE: Won't recognize color ink cartridge

This is a common problem with Kodak 5000 series and ESP series printers.
Check the silver contacts on the ink cartridges for small scratches in the center. The scratches indicate that the ink cartridges have made contact with the appropriate connections in the printer. If no marks are visible, the cartridge was not seated properly. If the contacts look ok, you'll have to call Kodak again. It's highly likely that the recertified printer you received was returned for the same problem. If you point out the fact that you are experiencing the same problem for the second time, you may wind up with an upgrade to an ESP5. Don't accept another printhead replacement as thiat will not resolve the problem.

SOURCE: Wont except aftermarket printer cartridge error code "not recognized"

May be the cartridge is not detected by Kodak printer. Kodak printer works with genuine Kodak cartridges and that too brand new not refilled cartridges. The brand new cartridges have a certain code that is recognised by the Printer.Kindly buy genuine cartridges as the printer may be damaged by Non comaptible cartridges.

SOURCE: Just replaced both ink cartridges on Kodak ESP 3.

silly question, you remembered to remove the plastic film off the connectors right? i realize you did 2 different cartridges but hey sometimes thing get messed up lol. it may be a faulty cartridge, you should be able to return it if that's the case. the only way to know for sure is to take it back and get a different one. if that's the case problem solved, you could always power down the printer completely after installing the cartridges and rebooting it

HOW DO YOU RESET PRINTER CHIP ON ESP7

On the ESP5 printers the cartridge has a "chip" and unlike other printers that have tried the "chip" method to keep you buying their ink cartridges, however they did not do it right from a business point of view. The installed a chip on the cartridge that "remembers" how much it has been used, which means it can be "reset" however Kodak, a very smart and innovated company, they watched all the other printer companies and saw what they were doing wrong, so when they saw the chip reset ability the came out to be able to refill the ink cartridge, they fixed the problem by using a simple fix.
They have a serial number only "read only" chip on their ink cartridge and the printer its self remembers the serial number so you cannot reuse the cartridge, now as you might think there is a limit on how many it will remember so I use my printer a lot so I kept all my cartridges to see how many it remembers before it overwrites the older numbers, unfortunately I found the number to be twenty so you would need twenty one cartridges and I keep track of them by having a number on them so I don't mix them up.
So the way it would work is you can without modifying your printer, it you first would need to buy twenty one color and twenty one black ink cartridges, number them to keep them in order then when you refill a cartridge you take the oldest one next to place into your printer and it will read as new. I know this is a wild way to do it but it works.
I have tried to remove the internal battery in the printer so the memory resets and that works but I also have to reload the printer firmware every time I change the cartridge to reset the memory and that is a lengthy and difficult thing to do each time you need a new ink cartridge. I also found that the firmware reload will not rest the numbers unless you remove the memory battery in the printer, another brick wall.
I am still working on a way to get the printer to reset the serial numbers more easy and haven't found a way yet but I will eventually find a way to do it so keep your eyes open on the internet because it will be in all the internet tech news when I make an easy and effective way to reset the printers serial number memory.
But until then the twenty one cartridge method is the easiest but a bit annoying to have twenty cartridges laying around just so you can refill them. Actually from a company point of view, Kodak was brilliant with this method to keep people buying real kodak ink cartridges, because the read only serial number chip on the ink cartridge, cannot be rewritten, it is like the difference between the memory in a computer, the ROM and RAM, ROM "Read Only Memory" and RAM "Random Access Memory" you can write to the RAM but you cannot write to the ROM so most ink cartridges use a writable memory chip, so the information on the amount of ink stays on the chip on the ink cartridge, and the Kodak uses a Read only chip and stores the information on the amount of ink in the cartridge within the printer its self so a chip resetting device will not work.
I am thinking I can make a cartridge like device that will click into the Kodak printer that will cycle threw twenty serial numbers so a user can reuse the cartridge after refilling it.
So keep watching the internet tech news and when it is available your will see the news of it.
