Disk error
ctr alt delete to reboot, an cant do anything else.I can go into bios, but nothing else works. I put the restore cd in, it sits there, but doesnt do anything. a friend had me do a disk restore program and it showed the hard drive was ok, but still wont boot up.
Could be a floppy in the drive (if you still have one!), USB, or the harddrive really isn't okay.Could be a floppy in the drive (if you still have one!), USB, or the harddrive really isn't okay.

You may have to open your computer and locate the hard drive. Trace the cable to see where it plugs into the motherboard. If there are other slots that it will plug into the motherboard, try plugging the hard drive into those.
If you have SATA plugins, it will be relatively easy to find a new port to plug it into. If you have IDE plugins, you may want to skip my solution and try other things first.

On Booting Try Enter Bios Setup F10, F2 or Delete for Old PC or Google how to enter Bios if u cant.. Look for disk scan or disk Diagnostic. After full scan if error still showing then replace the DISK.
First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.
Try this:
1. First you need Vista Recovery Disk .iso file. Can be downloaded here: [redacted] 2. Then you probably need image burning program. I prefer CD Burner XP >http://cdburnerxp.se/download.php 3. When you have installed CD Burner XP, start program, choose "Burn ISO image" and browse to Vista Recovery Disk.iso file. 4. When program has finished to burn ISO image, put CD into PC with "boot mgr is missing" problem. 5. Re-start PC, press F2 2-3 times, go into BIOS Setup Utility, choose Boot, move CD/DVD unit up to the first line with F6. Press F10 , choose YES. 6. Click this link to find out what to press when PC boots from CD:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fixing-bootmgr-is-missing-error-while-trying-to-boot-windows-vista/

Try this, before it boots up and just after in posts press F8, it should bring up a page where you can choose your boot option, choose "Safe Mode", if the computer does boot to safe mode there are a few steps you can do to remedy this.
First goto my computer, c:drive/windows and scroll down to a folder called prefetch open the folder, highlight everything in that folder by left clicking once on one of the icons and holding control(ctrl) then pressing A once everything is highlighted hold down the shift key and press delete, everything should now be gone, exit out of all the windows do a disk clean up, my computer right click on c:drive (your main drive) and click on disk cleanup tick all boxes and then click ok to start deleting the temp files. once finished reboot mechines and leave it to boot up. if you still are having problems or it wont boot up into safe mode post back. cheers.
You could have a hard drive problem. To check the hard drive boot up to the Windows XP cd in repair mode. At the C prompt type: chkdsk /r
This will start a program called Check Disk that will evaluate your hard drive and attempt to fix any errors. it Check Disk is successful it will complete 100% and return to a C prompt. You can then attempt to reboot. If Check Disk finds unrecoverable errors you will need to purchase a new hard drive and rebuild the OS.
reboot the computer as soon as you see signs of life start tapping the f8 key. when that screen pops up try to boot to safe mode or last known good configuration.
you can often fix it right back up using the original Vista
installation disk. Which comes with a pretty extensive System Recovery
Tool that's got lots of options. Set your computer to
boot from DVD (using the Boot setting in the BIOS), insert the disc and
restart. Vista will prompt you for language and keyboard layout
options, then ask if you want to reinstall Vista or repair your
installation. You want Repair. From there Vista's System Recovery Tool
will take over. this is the only way to get back from the dreaded boot manager missing error.
can you get into the BIOS? if so, would u make sure the boot orders are following: 1st. boot from hard drive, 2nd, cd rom 3rd, floppy, 4th, network adaptor?
save changes and try restart. i hope you do have OS installed. if not change 2nd part to 1st, and 1st to 2nd.
i have gotten the same error with my laptop. my computer was trying to load window from network, through network adapter.
