A loud humming noise in microwave mode will usually be a shorted high voltage diode or bad magnetron.

I'm guessing the model number would be KEMS308GSS0.

In some cases, this is a glitch that can be cured by unplugging it for 1 minutes, then resetting the clock.

In other case, it may be a bad keypad (membrane switch) or control board.

I would recommend changing the diodes as well. This will usually take care of the problem.

SOURCE: my kitchenaid microwave/convection oven shows "DOOR" on display

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If the switch mount is broken, it's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

If one of your door springs has failed, you will need to replace both, as well as any associated hardware that has failed.

I have a panasonic convection/microwave. Last night, after I cleaned it, using oven cleaner on a sponge, it made a loud humming noise after running on microwave for about 10 sec. It does not make the noise...

Since the unit makes the noise on Microwave but not convection it is a problem it he Microwave Circuit. Probably in either the rectifier of bad mag, one of them shorted. Just looked at the date you posted this, Im sure you have fixed or replaced this by now

Replace the buttons on a kitchenaid microwave Khhs179lss-5

First, you need to uninstall the microwave (MW) from the cabinet by removing the screws that hold it in place at the top. Open the cabinet doors above the MW to locate the screws.
You will need someone to help you at this point in removing the screws and dropping the MW down. Be sure and unplug the MW before you remove the screws.
Next, you need to take the cover/shell off by locating and removing screws A/R. They are mostly across the back and side bottom.
From there on out, you should be able to methodically find and locate the various fasteners that will get to the button pad.

KitchenAid KHHS179lss, fried magnitron?

If your magnetron was shorted, the unit would not heat at all.

The sound of a shorted magnetron is usually a loud hum-- but no or very little smell and no smoke.

Components in the High Voltage section -capacitor, diode- give problems if they short out.

Daewoo WM1010CC convection/ microwave combo unit issues

Likely takes a torx wrench or some other special star tool to open it.

Could be a bad relay a bad mag tube or a bad timmer or a bad door switch. Needs to be trouble shooted. You have to get it open and check the fuses and test the voltage on the pri transformer first.

Sharp carousel II microwave/convection oven

The question is... Do you want to put money on a 18year MW, or put it towards a new one? I must admit I love the SHARP Combo MW Convection ovens. I own two. One is almost 25years old. The mechanical Timer Type, but they work great and I can maintain them with 30years ef exrerience. I am now retired.
It does sound like the Magnetronhas broken down, however it could be other things in the Secondary (High Voltage Side). The High Voltage Side is made up of the Secondary HV side of the High Voltage Transformer, A High Voltage Diode, a High Voltage Capacitor, and the Magnetron. The High Voltage Side is DANGEROUS, and CAUTION should be taken to protect yourself against EXTREME HIGH VOLTAGE. unplug from power and DISCHARGE High Voltage Capaciton to frame GROUND before touching anything!!!!
