Machine was clanging as if something was loose and banging around (not in tub btw) while spinning, and now when it is on spin makes a noise and does not spin like something is stuck and preventing it from spinning. I am just not convinced it is the bearings any thing else could be?

SOURCE: off balance during spin cycle

I have a Performa Model PAV3200AWW that would go unbalanced every time it would go into a spin cycle. I found the problem to be a worn out snubber. This is a plastic ring that is at the pivot point for the whole tub. It separates the metal to metal contact at the bottom of the washer pivot point. The part is less than ten dollars, but it is a quit a job to replace. I had to remove the whole tub to replace mine, but it did solve the problem. If you see a lot of plastic shavings around the pivot point, then this could be your problem.

SOURCE: Maytag HAV4657EWW tub bangs during spin

This washing machine has self-leveling rear legs. Tilt the machine up on the front legs and you'll hear the back legs drop down to re-level itself. Center the basket and restart.

SOURCE: Maytag Epic Z Washer has object between drum and tub.

I had the same rattling during spin cycle of my Maytag 4000 series front loading washer. Noticed you could gently pull back on the rubber gasket between the tub and where the door seals. There was a quarter resting against the fixed ring the tub spins in. Problem solved. And I have further realized that long hair can build up in this same spot. But if you didn't know to pull back on the gasket you wouldn't see it. Good luck!

Tub is making very loud banging noise

There could be an unbalanced load of laundry being washed or the drum bearings are loose and need to be tighten or the filter is blocked in your washing machine.

During spin cycle the washer makes a loud thumping noise. Not a clanging/sharp noise. When I manually turn drum it sounds like something is loose inside. Like a ball may sound inside drum as it turns.

Is it a front loader? You may have something stuck between the tubs or it may be a broken "paddle" One of the plastic baffles that move the clothes around in the tub. they should all be tightly against the tub.

Replaced Transmission: everything working great, just not sure about suspension springs. 3 are very tight (tub base), 3 are somewhat loose (metal hangers). Is this normal?

If you can shake the outer tub in several directions without it banging the mechanism on the case, it would appear that you have it correct. If it were wrong, either the machine would 'walk' around the floor or make banging noises when it goes into spin with a full load of clothes. The tub should be free to shake, but in a controlled manner. Good luck and well done!

Drum banging is it bearing when on spin

Hi,
This is difficult to work out as there are so many different symptoms. Here are my thoughts -

Dust from carbon rushes is black. Grey dust usually comes from a loose concrete weight. Loose tub weights are rare on this model but they cause a loud knocking noise which is often worse when the washing machine is revving up to spin and dying down from a spin (suspension problems are also often worse at this safe too). It's not normally a metallic sound though.

If the noise is coming from the motor banging against the sides of the machine then it will make the machine move when it happens. The whole machine may jump or move to one side. The motor often thumps the side of the washing machine on Hotpoint washers where the motor is fitted at the top of the tub and over to the right hand side. This is a daft place to fit a motor and only .I think they've eventually stopped now though.

It is normal to be able to push the drum to the side so that the motor hits the casing. If the suspension has gone, the tub should be twisted and leaning to one side more than the other or it just could be very loose. It's difficult to check suspension if you don't know how it should feel.

If the noise is coming from the inner drum hitting the heating element or throwing an object like a £1 coin (trapped between the inner drum and the outer tub) around, then the washing machine will be stable but the noise would still be a horrible metallic knocking. This is one cause I suspect.

Loud banging noise when machine goes into spin mode. sounds like it is banging on the side. Please help !

Usually this is an out-of-balance condition caused by too much weight on one side of the tub, move the clothes around and try again.

Washing machine makes a clanging sound during agitation/spin

Without being there to physically see what it's doing or hear the sound, I would say there's 3 possibilities. 1) drive block is slipping on basket drive / brake assembly. 2) basket drive assembly is worn where drive block seats onto it. 3) clutch slipping.
