No matter what I am typing - passwords, searches, email, user id - when I hit the "t" key it opens a new tab - sometimes. Has happened 5 times while posting this message. Page size and spacing has also been randomly changed.
This is caused by the touchpad zoom feature; when it is enabled, brushing the touchpad registers a pressing of the ctrl key. Disable touchpad zoom and this behavior should stop occurring.
Just wanted to clairfy for anyone that comes across that post that it is very likely that the problem is solution one. It seems as though it is affecting a lot of Inspirion 1545 owners. To disable the touch to zoom you go to Control panel/hardware and sound/mouse/Dell touch pad/click on the picture of the track pad/scrolling settings/click the check box under Scroll to zoom to disable it.
It sounds like your CTRL key is stuck, given that CTRL + T is new tab, and CTRL+ "Plus" or "Minus" is zooming.
Try some canned air, you can also try activating your CTRL key multiple times, which may free up and debris that is causing this.
It is however possible that your keyboard may need to be reconnected, or replaced. Try the first option and let us know.
