Changed drum July 2010, display panel continued to say change drum, but was printing fine until now the printer stops printing in the middle of a report, I have to open and shut the "hood"...

When you change the drum you must reset the drum count.
1: press ONLINE button once. The lcd display will read offline.
2: press MENU button until the lcd display reads MAINT. Menu.
3: press ITEM+ button twice. The lcd display will read drum count reset.
4: press SELECT button once. this will save the drum count reset.
5: press ONLINE button once. You will notice the Change Drum Message
has disappeared. You should be able to print at this time.

E-Studio170F drum warning changed drum and still get warning

You need to reset the drum count on the machine. To do this press [MENU], [5], [2], [04] then when it says reset drum count use the up or down keys until it says yes then press enter.

Open the Status Monitor. 
Click Printer Setup tab.

B&W Xerox copier XC23 has code J7 and will not print

There is a chip on the back of the drum unit that keeps count. It cannot be reset. You may try to find a replacement chip on the internet. I would recomment the rechargerstore.com They have good products. I do not know how long your drum will last, you may end up having to replace it for copy quality problems at some point.

Drum light

You need to reset the drum count. Open the toner door. Hold the "Go" key until all 4 lights light up. Let go of the button and close the door. That should reset the drum count and stop the blinking.
