1 year old Samsung Refrigerator ice maker was repaired for the third time under warranty and within a few hours a toxic plastic/glue smelling fume has taken over our appliance. The temp in the fridge and freezer will not stay where we set them and everything is spoiling. I called Sears repair and they refused to acknowledge that it could possibly be from the ice-maker repair and said it must be my food causing the smell. The earliest they could come back out is 10 days away. I explained that I have children and I am worried that the fumes are poisonous and they still refused to come out any sooner. I asked for a Manager who refused to escalate this and when I asked to speak to his Manager he said that was not allowed and disconnected the call.

SOURCE: ice build up in back section of a Whirlpool no frost top freezer refrigerator 66"hx30"wx27"d

your sure the defrost cycle works? sounds to me its not. you need to remove the freezer back and check the defrost components. or put it in the defrost cycle and see if it is working. to get that much frost as you describe the dor would have to be left open. also check all door seals. let me know what you find and we can go from there

SOURCE: fridge is not cold enough, freezer is working fine, but has frost

Just had the same problem with my side-by-side.

In my case, the solution was to empty the freezer side, to access a back panel INSIDE the freezer covering the fan and cooling coils. Two screws held the back panel cover on, and when I removed the panel cover I found the cooling coils to be totally iced up, preventing the flow of cold air into the fridge side. I left the freezer open for a few hours until all the ice was melted, before replacing the inside panel. (I used a blow dryer to help speed up the ice melting).

Everything's working fine now for me - good luck with yours!

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold Refrigerator (GS5SHAXNLOO) Ice maker not running, some ice in maker melted together

I have the same model. This has happened to me several times (usually when the door was kept ajar without notice).
Simply open the door, take a common hairdryer and blow at high speed (hottest also) all around the area of where you can feel the ice in the tray, but hasn't dumped yet. It will usually take about 5-8 minutes of consistently moving back and forth around that area. What has happened is the lines bringing water to the trays have frozen over. When you "thaw" them out, the ice made will dump in about 45 minutes. When you hear the ice fall, you will know it's in working order again. I have NOT heard this is a "flawed" icemaker, only that it is hypersensitive to freezing lines when a door is left ajar. In your case, to prevent this from happening again. If you shut the icemaker off again, make SURE you turn off the source of the water feed BEFORE you turn off the ice maker. By doing this, the lines will empty as it makes it's last tray of water. Try that - very confident it will fix your problem!

Can this ice maker be set to make more ice? And faster?

Icemakers cycle cubes from the air temperature inside the freezer so you can't do much to increase speed except adjust the freezer control colder. As to the bucket not filling, most icemakers have a feeler arm or plastic paddle that is suppose to sense the ice level in the bucket. Make sure the feeler arm or paddle at the bottom is free and no sticking or hitting anything. It needs to move freely ask the icemaker dumps the cubes. If your refrigerator is less that a year old it should be under warranty and a free repair to you.

Rsg257 imaker bucketstuck

Probably indicates a leak inside the ice maker that froze the bucket to the icemaker outer shell. Our Samsung (under warranty) has had the ice maker components replaced twice in under a year for internal leaks (I think the 2nd repair has finally solved the problem - it leaked from the beginning, we had service out after 4 months, it continued to leak, and we had service out again a few months later).

First time, the tech had to take a blow dryer to melt some of the ice that had built up inside the unit, to free the bucket, so he could replace the components.

CAUTION: water contacting a blow dryer can cause an electrical short and personal injury. Be VERY careful if you resort to that method to melt the ice, and be sure to put towels under the ice chute to catch water. Also be sure not to use too hot a setting so the ice maker plastic doesn't become deformed. When in doubt, call for professional service.

Dear Help 'Desk, I have a Samsung silver nano fridge/freezer. I've broken one of the removable door shelves in the freezer. Can you suggest a suitable (preferably clear) glue to repair the

Fevi-quick stick fast glue will be useful. It will take few minutes to hold the broken parts.Dont put overload of food stuff on the rejoined tray. But it will hold the basic load.

Before going to buy any parts directly.

Hi chjnt,
What is the model and age of the fridge?

If it is a side by side and you did all that for it already, perhaps it may need a replacement ice maker.

Here is and interesting report!!!!!
Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old (three years for top-freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your refrigerator is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive top-freezer refrigerator
six or more years old or a bottom-freezer or side-by-side eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a refrigerator you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.

Frigidaire side by side ice maker, water and ice dispencer inop

It would depend on the age of the refrigerator whether repair is economical. If the refrigerator is under ten years old repair it. If it is over ten years old you have to consider how much life is remaining for the refrigerator. Burnt smell source must be located because that is the key to your problem. It could be a simple matter of replacing the switch in the door.
