I called Roland at the number that you provided and gave they following proceedure which will re-intialize the BR 1180 and ERASE everything that was created on the HD:

  1. Simultaneously hold down button beneath volume control at track 5 and Undo/Redo button at upper right
  2. Press power button while holding down buttons as above, until test menu comes up
  3. Turn selector dial untill initialize screen shows
  4. Prdess ENTER and initialization will start
  5. Once initialization is completed, power off unit and then power it back-up.
NOTE: This proceedure erases all data!

Mine does this (lights 1 3 5 6 and display on but nothing works) but no menu or anything shows up. Do you start this procedure from power off or on? is there an internal way to initialise it?

YEs Its the Same procedure for the BR8 I just tried it and wella after 2 years of sitting in the closet because it would only light up some track lights and freeze up. I almost tossed it in the garbage except for they were so expensive back in the day. Anyway just hold down the button under fader # 5 and the undo button and then hit the power up button and Wella the whole thing is like brand New. Also i suggest you download the latest update from roland on to a br8 formatted zip disk and insert it with power off and the power unit up it will guide you thruogh the steps. The point is this solution really works I am so happy Yeahhhh !!!!!!!!!!!!

Boss br8. I have no power is there a fuse inside the machine?

There should be a fuse on the power supply board inside the unit. If it is not that then it is most likely the board itself. You can get a replacement at Allied Electronics.

Can't download tracks from BR-800 to laptop

Go to this site:

http://www.vsplanet.com/ubbthreads/

In the forums tab, scroll down to the BR8 forums. There is software to convert the BR files to PC readable. You can find discussion there of where and what to get.

Br8...the enter button has become harder and harder to make activate...now nothing. Everything in the unit works fine...except the enter button...which means that I cant record anything at all.

The button is obviously bad... The next thing is to determine what type button is used, It may be a small module or it may be a conductive rubber one. The latter, you take apart and clean with 99% isoprophyl alcohol and QTips. The module type you unsolder and replace the little module.

Can I use a computer hard drive in my Boss Br8 multitrack recorder the zip drive is not reading....something like 20 gig or whatever is in a pentium 3 would this work and if so how do I do it???

It is not likely the firmware will talk to a hard drive as the interface is different.

Refer to the VSPlanet.com site where some have converted to use SD cards in place of Zip drives.

Each time I attempt to initialize a zip disk in my Roland BR8...

Probably the drive has gone bad as a first thought... this happens. Possibly the heads got dirty...

Make sure nobody has smoked tobacco around the unit as that is a killer for Zip drives.

Sometimes they have a second level of initializing/formatting. If the BR* has that, try it.

Boss BR 8...I insert the 100 mb disk, then asks to initialize..I enter 'yes' then it asks 'sure?' I enter yes then it says 'medium error' then ejects the disk..what's the problem?

If the disk had data put on with a PC you might try deleting all files and folders using the PC before formatting the disk in the BR8.

It is also possible that the media has gone bad.

A final try would be to degauss the disk and try to format on the BR8.

Need Help on a Boss B R 8

I think I solved this problem.

I used a different power adapter and it works now. Try different adapters, I used an old Nintendo one. It is 9V 1.3A, even though the back of the BR-8 says 9V 2A
