Lacie 1tb external hard drive

I bought this hard drive 1 year ago. lacie 1tb it was running brilliantly no probs. i have a mac 20 and i hooked the hard drive up to quicktime. when i first turn on the hard drive from power it loads up no probs however when it goes into standby mode and i try to work the hard drive again it makes funny noises that it never made before and sometimes freezes my whole cpu. it cannot be a virus since macs do not get viruses and it is as new since i have taken care of her to perfection. i have about 700gb of important info on the hard drive i cannot afford to lose if i send it off to a tech so please advise.

As a precaution, backup your data to another machine, in case the external drive is developing problems which would get worse and essentially "lose" your data. Does it do this on other machines other than yours? If so, it is developing problems, which, as said, could be deadly to data. If it doesn't foul up on other machines, then something is afoul with something on your machine. Various problems are reported with sleep mode wakeup. Could you disable the sleep mode function? You might see if there is an O/S update for your Mac which addresses this problem (waking up the USB ports & connected devices).

Hi John

This situational you have to do only one thing change you USB cable and try, if your drive is appeared its mean you solve the issue. otherwise take the drive and go to the lacie nearest service center because the drive have internal problem (may be Capistrano fault).

I just bought my LaCie 301888KUA 1TB Starck Desktop USB2.0. I was following set up directions in the manual until I realized that my Mac OS X (version 10.5.8) is not recognizing the hard drive . It's not...

the problem is that your lacie drive operates using the NTFS (New Technology File System) under USB which is the standard file system of Windows. Apple mac is not interopable with native NTFS therefore you need to install a read-write NTFS file-system driver on your mac if you wish to use it via the USB connection.

an excellent free mac NTFS driver can be found here-
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/NTFS-3G.shtml

download and install the software then restart your mac.

I had the same issue -- turned out that power supply was going bad so the drive wouldn't spin up all the way; this could explain the strange noises you're hearing. I put in a support ticket with LaCie at their website and they sent me a new power supply at no charge (I was within the warranty period, I think).

Lacie 1TB external hd won't mount!

check wires connecting them together first, ok?

then, turn off the LaCie, connect to your MacPro, and then turn on the drive..

that should show as a mounted drive.

need printer drivers update?
