SOURCE: Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator ice dispenser

First pull out the ice bucket and close the door.  Set for cubed ice.  Press the button for ice to come out and listen for a loud clunk noise.  That is the sound of the solenoid.  You can open the door, hold the light switch and press the button and watch for the solenoid moving up and down.  Solenoid is at the back of the freezer in a little square opening where the rod on the ice bucket goes into.  If that solenoid is moving ok then put the bucket back in while the solenoid is in the down position and cubes should work.  If solenoid is not working then it will need to be replaced.  Let me know what you find.

SOURCE: whirlpool conquest 2001 GS6SHAXKQ01 refrigerator side by side top part is not cooling

the first one sounds like it is slowly leaking freon.

  •  the second Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items. If it still has a problem then it might be the compressor and you should probably replace the machine.

SOURCE: Side by Side Whirlpool Refrigerator: Refrigerator is freezing food

Hi, riverbyfarm
You did try what i would of recommended first!
The resetting of the system by, turning off the controls of the freezer and the fridge first and then unplugging it or if you can't reach the plug, to throw the breaker off for 5 minutes!
That is a possibility in the order that I described!!!!!

Second I ask, is the freezer packed full to the hilt with packages?
In some refrigerators if the frozen food covers the air vents in the freezer cause they are plied sky high and deep in the freezer it can cause a problem.
The freezer and fridge share the air and have to have the vents or passages free so to allow sharing of the cold air!
Let me know if the measures as I prescribed have an affect.

Waiting for your reply!
Bless You Huuum

SOURCE: Whirlpool Side By SIde Refrigerator Freezer stopped cooling

5 reasons for fridge and/or freezer getting warm: 1- the evaporator coils are icing up and won?t let air circulate. 2- the evaporator fan is not working to circulate air. 3- there is no refrigerant in the system. 4- no power to fridge or compressor. 5- the condenser coils have no air circulation check under the fridge behind the vent. if it is too dusty or the fan isn?t working, it is not getting enough airflow to cool down. replace fan and/or vacuum out the dust. if there is no power to the fridge, the light will be off. if the compressor is not running, there is a defrost timer that cuts the power temporarily to the compressor to melt ice on the coils. it?s located under the fridge behind the bottom vent. If the timer is off and the compressor is not going, the compressor or the main board is bad and needs replacing. there is also a temperature sensor on the evaporator coils that tells the defrost coil to turn on and when to turn off. if the defrost timer is on but the coil is not heating up, replace the sensor. if it still won?t heat up, it?s the timer or the coil. the easiest way to tell if there is no refrigerant- the freezer wall is warm and the compressor is loud. if there is no refrigerant, it may be more cost effective to replace the fridge. if you feel no air coming from the freezer vent, the fan needs replacing. If you feel air moving in the freezer but not the fridge, the channel from freezer to fridge is blocked. if the freezer has air and the rear freezer wall has frost on it, the evaporator coils are iced up and need defrosting. causes: 1. low refrigerant 2. no fan 3. too much humid air in fridge/freezer due to door open or bad door seals 4. the condensate drain tube is clogged if the seal around the door is ripped or not completely sealing, or there is condensation at the bottom or the walls of the fridge, replace the seal(s). no air, no fan. Replace if the refrigerant is low, it just needs a top off. but you need to be certified by the epa to move refrigerant, so get a professional. defrost solutions: unplug the fridge. remove the wall of the freezer that is frosted/icing up. use a hair dryer to melt the ice. do not get too close. you will see a drain under the evaporator coil. make sure it is not blocked. the water should run freely to a condensate pan under the fridge that evaporates the condensation with the hot line from the compressor. once the coil is free of ice, frost, and water, replace the panel and repair any of the problems that caused the icing up. plug the fridge in and turn it on. If it frosts up within a week, there is still an issue that not been taken care of.

Whirlpool side by side does not stay cool or frozen.

You need to check the overload relay on the compressor and make sure that the coils near the compressor are clean of debris and duct.

Whirlpool ref model #ED5PVEXVS00, need filter for this model. We don't know the part number needed or where on the refrigerator that the filter is located. Please help with both

The original part number is 4396841; cartridge T2RFWG2. The filter fits into the grill at the bottom of the refrigerator (nearly centered on the left hand side of the grill). There is a cap covering the filter.

The fridge can be used without a filter if the cap is taken off the old filter and put back into place. For a diagram that includes the filter and grill location see: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/partsdirect/showSubComp.pd?imageUrl=http%3a%2f%2fc.searspartsdirect.com%2flis_png%2fPLDM%2fW0812046-00001.png . The filter is part 30 in the diagram. The entire set of parts diagrams, leading to parts list and prices are available here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Whirlpool-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-ED5PVEXVS00/1198/0165000 .

Another on-line source for the filter is: http://www.partstore.com/Part/Whirlpool/Whirlpool/ED5PVEXVS00/Whirlpool/Whirlpool/4396841/New.aspx .

I hope this helps.

Our side by side wont stay cold. We emptied out and unplugged it. Someone side it might be the thermostat?

First , is there frost on the back wall of the freezer ? Do you hear the fan run in the freezer buy just not cooling ?If frost , then you have a defrost problem , if second , whirlpools are good at bad overload/relay on compressor problems .

Whirlpool ED22COXHW02 side ny side not freezing or cooling

From your description it sounds like your compressor has gone bad. Check the condenser and see if it is plugged with dust. Clean it and let the unit cool off for about an hour or so. A plugged condenser can cause the compressor to overheat which can cause the thermal overload to click cutting the power to the compressor. After the compressor has been aloud to cool off restart the system and see if the compressor will operate. If you had to remove a panel in the back to access the condenser make sure you replace it for proper air circulation.

Whirlpool side by side not staying cool

make sure that everything is running in it - the compressor - any fans and that all airflows are ok.

If all is working then it is a refrigeration problem. low gas, blocked pipes or filter. This will have to be looked at by a refrigeration mechanic
