Power jack connection broken on HP Omnibook xe3

My HP Omnibook xe3 cannot run on mains as the power jack connection to the mother board seems to be broken. At first it was only working if the plug was weighed down with a book. Now it has failed completely. For the moment I have purchased an external battery charger as I had a spare battery anyway but I really could do with continous power. Can I have it adapted so that the power jack is more robust?

The jack in itself is quite robust, it is the soldering to the board that sometimes lack substance, also rough usage in the way of forcing the plug in and pulling it out roughly contributes to the demise of the soldering. If the jack is still intact take it to a repair shop and if the pads haven't broken away from the printed cirsuit board have them reflow and maybe add a bit of extra solder to the joints.

Power jack connection broken on HP Omnibook xe3

I bought a docking station (port replicator) off ebay, and it has worked great. I had a look at the motherboard, and the docking station uses a different connection for power than the damaged AC port. So in summary, yes a docking port should solve your problem.

If you can get a docking station for it you may be able to solve it that way.

Where is the resest button for my omnibook xe3 laptop

Hi,

Their is no reset button for this laptop. Pushing the power button and holding it down for a few seconds will force a shutdown if that is what you are looking for. Laptops aren't like PDA's where you stick a nail in a little hole and it reboots the system.
