Pump will not work

My dishwasher seems to go thru all the cycles but the dishes are not being cleaned. Upon further inspection it appears that the pump is not wirking as no water is in the tub. The heater is working because it is hot. Hope i't something simple. Please help.

The water works and hasn't been cut off. After further reading here at FixYa I suspect it may be the valve on the diswasher where the water comes in. Any input would be helpful.

The pump motor was locked up. Water had been leaking thru a face seal on the impeller and sitting on top of the motor. The ball bearings in the top of the motor were rusted to the point of locking the motor.

Dishwasher runs through cycle. Water is in the tub, and throughout most of the tub. I have checked for clogs in the propellers and such. The dishes are not getting cleaned and recently the soad dispenser area is not getting water because it is not cleaned out of soap. This is a pretty expensive unit and we have been having problems with it for 1/2 of it's life so far. I am getting ready to bring it back to the store and get another brand.

Make sure that the water shutoff is turned on. It is likely under the sink where the hot water line is tapped to feed water to the dishwasher. Do you have hot water at your sink?

I have GE GLDT696TSS. The dishes are not clean and one time noticed water leak from the back of the washer.

You should check the water outlet - probably discharges into your sink through a garbage disposal - the water outlet is likely plugged and water can not discharge down the sink. You can remove the hose and clean it out.

After running a full cycle the dishes have a film left on them. Sometimes soap is not rinsred off the dishes. Tried different soaps for dish washers. It seems the only thing to take the film off of the...

Film on dishes post cycle is caused by 2 things.... Poor water flow during the wash / rinse cycle.... i.e clogged sump inlets or restricted drains. Clean the drain hose first. Start at the cink connection and clean EVERY connection and in-line componenet from the port hole at the sink connection all the way back to the drain hise connection port at the dishwasher.

If you still have dirty dishes post cycle after drain cleaning... then remove the lower wash arm support and clean the accumulator / sump area thoroughly. See this link: (items 1 and 4) http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5140844&diagram_id=28222738#d28222738

Test again.

If the problem persists you will have to gain access to the pump impeller. Inspect the impeller, and pump housing for damage. UNDER the dishwasher. Item 22 of the above link.

This should get your diswasher performing properly again.

I used this model number as a reference: GU2400XTPB1

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Dishes don't seem to be coming clean in dishwasher. Plasticware seems cloudy and etched. Other plactic pieces look cloudy. Whites plates appear clean.

Hi

If you are noticing that the dishes are not clean, then there are a few things to check for. Check the soap powder if it’s kept in a dry environment. Also try replacing the powder with something like a gel or liquid. Next thing to check for is the water pressure and fill valve. Check if the water is filling in and the spray arms are throwing the water with enough pressure. Try and listen to the sound if you hear a proper spraying action sound. If it seems as a low water pressure then check the fill valve.

Now, check if dishwasher is draining the water or not. While the dishwasher is working check whether the dishwasher is draining and there is not much left out water after the cycle is complete. Try cleaning the spray arm with a soft brush.

The water temperature plays a major role in cleaning of dishes. The temp should be between 125 and 150 F for dishwasher to clean the dishes.

Please post back for any further assistance.

Dirty Dishes

Hello Peter, Welcome to Fixya. I'm going to start by asking a couple of questions, but that is part of a proper and thorough diagnosis from afar...in my opinion. Does a "normal" wash cycle take longer then 2 - 3 hrs ? Do the dishes appear to be dry when the dishwasher completes the cycle ? Further to this question, does there appear to be any heat in the machine upon completion of the cycle ? I ask these questions specifically because heat is a crucial factor in desolving the detergent ( usually a minimum of 145F ) and thus cleaning the dishes as well as allowing the dishes to dry properly when cleaned. If we could start here I will be better equipped to helping you solve your dishwasher troubles and with any luck assisting you in repairing it yourself. I'll watch for your reply and we'll go from there. macmarkus :)

RESIDUE ON DISHES-NOT CLEANING WELL-DETERGENT NOT DISSOLVING-LONG CYCLES

Sounds like you have motor pump problem and may need to be replaced.  The parts are covered for 2 years but you'll have to pay for the labor.  Call a qualified LG technician for service on your dishwasher.  You can find them on the LG website.

Hi - I have tried all the usual tricks of running an empty load with vinegar, and the food particle filter seems to be the kind that isn't removable. Whenever I run a load, there is enough left over...

the best but not the fastest way is to remove the pump and motor assy and visuall inspect for fooreign items in the pump assy and also inspect for damage to the pump inpeller at the same time. Sorry not a fast fix but the best way

Dishwasher

Check to see if you have any switches on your dishwasher that could by pass a rinse cycle. Use a hotter temparture when washing, Check your water level, check your filters on your inlet hose top and bottom. When it gets to a rinse cycle you should hear it drain out and bring in fresh water. you could change to a liquid detergent. Dont over load your dishwasher. make sure you are using rinse aid and try adjusting it up one setting. Shiney glasses means your rinse add is working. NZL
