Question about Kenmore Freezers
My Kenmore upright freezer is maybe 14 years old. The alarm went off last night. The seal is loose from when I moved last year, and the movers messed it up, but as long as I keep it locked, it stays sealed. I put it on quick freeze and it got back to a proper temperature and the alarm went off. An hour later it went off again. This time, it must have just stopped working, though all the lights were on and I could hear the motor. Everything was thawing out so I saved what I could, threw away the rest. This morning when I woke up, the freezer was functioning properly. What could be the problem? It's frostless, so it wasn't that.

If the yellow light is flashing it may mean that the 9 volt battery is dead.
On my Kenmore there's a small battery compartment on the bottom right of the unit - under the door.

if the gasket isn't torn and the gap isn't caused by a door hinge problem you might try putting some vaseline on the door seal. If that doesn't help you may have to replace the seal.

SOURCE: FREEZER ALARM WILL NOT SHUT OFF
You can try 2 things. Unplug it for about 2-3 minutes and then replug it. It should reset itself. You can silence the alarm or muffle it. Silencing it should be hard. Disconnect it from its source. You may want to find out why it is alarming constantly. Have you called Sears and asked them?

SOURCE: food thawing in freezer
You may have a small leak in the evaporator. You could try to get a replacement freon with stop leak from the automotive store and give it a shot. If it is a R12 unit then it is too old to repair. But it is worth the gamble to shoot it with freeze 12 or an equivilent before you condemn it.

I was hoping it would be something like a cracked door seal, or a faulty thermostat, etc., but after reading the rest of your info, I've concluded the likely cause is a slow leak in the refridgerant line(s). I've seen many of these fairly new upright freezers with this problem.
Finding the leak is easy for a service tech to find, but the cost of the service tech isn't cheap and unfortunately, the repair cost will probably exceed the cost of a new freezer, but you can try to call a repair tech and see if they can give you a rough estimate over the phone or if they think it's worth fixing, etc.
My advice is to replace it. The cost of food you've lost has probably exceeded the price of a new freezer - and you've had this happen twice now. These days it seems that some appliances are being designed and built as "throw aways" due to the high repair cost.
Wished I had some better news for you, but unless you've got all the specialty tools; (charging gauges, vaccum pump, Freon, etc.) needed to do the repair yourself, along with the technical knowledge, it's likely not worth having the repair service contracted. Best Regards.
