Im using hp dv6700t laptop,i want to install xp on my laptop

Your laptop has a SATA hard drive and windows XP doesn't recognize those drives cause the operating system came out before those drive were made.

Follow these steps I found thru google to get windows xp sp3 to recognize your drive:

http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-39282-xp-can-t-recognize-hard-drive-for-os-install

You'll have to use a program to do this but people explain how to do it on that page plus the program is free.

I have a hard drive with windows 95 and i am trying to install windows xp professional addition but it comes back saying you can't intall this version of windows on this system

Windows 95 uses the FAT 32 system and uses a boot-up partition that will not recognize a windows xp default system install that uses the NTFS system. You can do it the other way around though, if XP is installed first, or another drive you have with XP on it is the first drive set to boot in your BIOS XP will recognize WIN 95 on its FAT 32 partition and either let you boot from that partition when you first start up your computer or when in XP right clicking a WIN 95 application and setting its properties to run as a Win 95 environment. Solution I would use if I were you would be to download Microsoft's free Virtual PC application from their website and run a full version of WIN 95 in its own virtual environment. Win 95 will run about 10 times faster than it ever would on its own partion if run under XP.

Won't recognize on windows XP(SP3)

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use asoftech data recovery program to recover your files.
