I have a 021 and the bar and chain is getting no oil. Every time i open the oil tank it's full.! I cleaned it three times and still no luck.

When I have the bar removed and rev up the motor oil is pumped out where it should come out. I've cleaned the hole in the bar where the oil is supposed to go but when all is assembled as and run up no oil gets on to the chain or bar.

When new I could get a light spray, as per instructions, coming off the chain when running.

Also the chain saw leaks oil when not in use.

    Any solutions?

I imagine that the oil tube and or drip hole for the chain is plugged up. Remove the bar & clean up all the wood chips, etc to see if the bar oil is working. It can also be the hose or tank connection. Rick

My saw was leaking oil . I took the handle off and took the plastic piece off the saw. the pick up tube is connected to that plastic piece . Cleaned everything with crab cleaner, put back together.. No more leaks. This was easy to do. All I needed was my chainsaw wrench that came with the saw...PS the piece I'm talking about is under the handle on the bottom of the saw.

Stihl ms291 needs oil adjustment. Where is the screw located to adjust the bar oiler.

MS291 Does NOT have an oil adjustment screw. It is an auto oiler. Make sure the ports are clean and oil is coming out running the saw with chain off. Then add a little canola oil to your chainsaw bar oil and thin it down. You will get a better flow. Stihl has a poor design on this model.

Chaisaw wont keep consistant tension. 1st it goes really tight then after retension it goes really slack. any ideas?

Most chain tention issues are due to inadiqate oil to the bar and chain, or the wrong type of oil, there may also be issues if this is a tooless system to lock the bar.

Ms 170 leaks bar chain oil out bottom, no oil on chain

Your clutch drum bearing has gone bad, letting the clutch drum to move around and cut into the oiler behind it, so now it just pumps the oil out that hole. You have to get that fixed to use the saw, otherwise you're going to cause catastrophic damage to the saw very soon.

Stihl 031av oil seams to come off bar and chain good but not when cutting into wood bar gets very hot. Stop the saw and oil drips from the saw. The small hole in bar is clear of dirt and lines up with...

Try loosening the chain just a little bit. Not enough to have it come off the bar, but enough to reduce the friction between the chain and the bar.

Hope this helps!

I have a Stihl 16" 012 AVT chainsaw. I cannot get

First thing I would try is wash out the oil tank with a little bit of diesel fuel then run some thinner oil thru it to see if it gets better . I usually leave bar and chain off when I do this.. or if it is oiling but not going down the bar check the bar oil holes.

Bar not recieving oil

The problem is related to the internal oil pump. The followings are the possibilities:
  • Clogged line from the oil reservoir to the pump.
  • Clogged line between the oil pump and the chainsaw bar orifice.
  • Faulty oil pump itself (common in well used/old device).
Hope it helps.

Stihl MS 250 16"

take the bar off and give it a good clean, get compressed air and blow it into the oil tank, making a seal around it first
