You need to share the printer. Go to your pc and open up the printers (Start button, Printers and Faxes). Right click on your printer that you want to share and then click sharing. Make sure share this printer is checked and list this printer in directory is checked. Now you should see the printer on the laptop when you click the Add printer and choose browse for printers or something to that effect. It will prompt you to install the drivers for this printer on the laptop. Click Yes or OK and you should be good to go. Make sure you have the printer turned on prior to doing any of this. You will also need the PC attached to the printer turned on when printing.

Yes you need to setup the printer as a shared printer using the printer driver CD.
Your shared printer and computer would need to be on your LAN and connected to a wireless router. The laptop will connect to the shares printer via the wireless router and LAN cable to the computer with the shared printer.
Please click on this link and follow my instructions to setup the shared printer.

Network Vista Wireless Laptop to XP Desktop & Print Documents

On the desktop machine - go to the printers folder, right click the icon for the Laserjet and choose sharing (enable print sharing). You should be able to name the printer and make it accessible to anyone within the workgroup. If needed you can run the network setup wizard to change the workgroup names on both machines.

On the laptop go to add new printer and choose network printer, you should be able to browse to the desktop machine by name and choose the Laserjet as a printer (whether you want it to be the default is up to you). The laptop will download and install the drivers from the desktop pc to the laptop and set the correct network path automatically.

It goes without saying that the desktop machine must be on in order to print from the laptop in this scenario.

Trying to network xp pc to wireless laptop

Right click on the drive you want to share. Ex: C:\Vol-xx = name. In the pop up window click Sharing & Security. This needs done to all the drives you want access too. To share a printer. Everyone must have the printer drivers installed. The Pc that has a direct connection to the printer must also Share the printer on the network. Open Printer & Faxes, highlight the printer you want to share. Click File than click Sharing follow windows instructions.
Small suggestion regards to the wireless side of the network. Suggest you setup security so others close too you can not tap into your network. (common).
