Turn it off for about 5 to 10 seconds, turn it back on and should resolve the issue assuming wi fi was set up correctly.
If that does not work then re configure it and try it on a different channel
now that its reset it should have a default ip address of either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 so if you open a web browser on a computer that is directly connected to the router via a network cable you should be able to get to the configuration page via the routers ip address and press enter.
It should then prompt you for a username and password. By default it will either be username = admin and ignore the password field and click on ok / login or password = password all lower case and no username ( ignore the username field ) and click on ok / login.
This should log you in and you should be able to configure the connection for the WAN port if necessary and the wireless etc.
If you need more help post back or you can call the linksys support number and they will walk you through it step by step
web browser being internet explorer or firefox or something along those lines
Click on the Wireless tab
- Here Wireless Network mode should be mixed
- Provide any name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box, all in
lower cases without any spaces in between.
- Set wireless channel to 11
- And wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save
settings.
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the
Network Identifier.
For Wireless Security : -
Now Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security.
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP
Encryption should be 64 bits.
Leave the Pass phrase blank, don't type in anything.
And under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please.
Click on save settings.
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the
Wireless Network & you will be able to go online.
Kudos! Thanks!
---------------------------
Follow the above guide - except if possible I would change the wireless security to WPA or WPA-PSK as its stronger and better.
The SSID is the name of your wireless network and the passphrase / password you set will be the password you will need to enter when on a laptop / desktop when you want to join the wireless network.
Go to the user guide which is on this site here
Click on the word here as it is the correct link and click on user guide which will have instructions on how to configure each part of the router.
as per that guide it does not look like it has wireless on it which would indicate to me that you will need a wireless access point ( purchased seperately by yourself ) and configuration of this will be explained in the guide unless you know it has or comes with wireless.
Any chance you can take a screen shot of the different wireless config pages also if you go to the linksys website it should show you there how to configure it but if you can email me the screen shots to
shanerussell
where
to do a screen shot get to the config section on the config page and then press the print screen button prnt screen or print screen and then open microsoft paint and go to edit and paste and save as and give it a name and save it to your desktop as a bmp and do that again for all the other config pages for wireless and I will walk you through how to configure it.
how to configure wireless on your router
Down the right hand side is a menu bar with links on how to configure different things for wireless ( click on the one for WPA )

I have turning it off and back on several times. When I went to install the new router it would not configure the router. I got this router because it is suppose to be simple. I had the old one (same router) and it has performed perfect up until yesterday. Put the new one in and it won't configure. I am wondering if it could be a setting on my desktop machine that is messed up. I feel the router is not broadcasting because my sons psp will not work with the wi fy either. I appreciate your suggestion, but I dont know how to reconfigure it on a different channel. I have also tried the reset button on the back. Thanks
I appreciate this. I would like to post back to you once I get there. I was there last night, trying to follow the steps in the help section. I have the hearing of a 70 yr old man so I really don't do so good on the phone. I guess I really don't know what to do once i get in. Thanks so much for your assistance
ok, I have got in to the setup. I can not hear very well so I really need your assistance. Talking on the phone is out. What to do next? The thing is working perfect for things that are plugged in, just no wireless
Thanks for your time with this. For some reason, i still have no wireless with this router.
sorry, not buying. it says wireless g right on the router.
the one that I thought gave up was the same unit and it worked well for 2 years. When I installed this unit it was unable to configure itself. Said the cables were hooked up wrong. They were hooked up the same way as the other one for 2 years.....this thing is just blowing my mind man!
I see the problem. Model is a wrt54gs. somehow that has been changed but that is the model
