Pink screen reformatted laptop toshiba satellite 1905-s805. after installing when its in xp the screen goes pink and flikers. now i can still use the external monitor and i can still adjust brightness of laptop its just flickers. whats the alternative to not having to buy a new motherboard.

You just boot from the install cd/dvd, you get the option to delete partitions as you go along.

Go to this site, select Laptops, Satellite (family), and your model number. Note that you wrote S801 in the title and S805 in the body of your message so be sure you select the right model.

This is indeed "Do-able"  You need to boot on your XP DVD and  go through, & when it finds your "Old" Windows you can then select "Repair" install.  NOT "Repair via Recovery Console" this is the first option you get,  go past this point in the setup process. Hopefully this will refresh your setup.

Another way is to go into your I386 directory, either on Hard Drive or DVD, and find & "Run" WINNT32.exe this will then perform an "In Place Reinstall" Just follow the instructions.

this may be too late for you, but I had the same problem with my old toshiba laptop. The support person I talked to had me take out the battery, leave the computer plugged in and push and hold the on button for 10 - or 15 seconds. She said it discharges something or other and to periodically run the computer without the battery. Sometimes my screen just goes blank on my new computer and this always fixes the problem.

This could be that the hard drive has failed, and could also be the reason for the initial crash. Run a drive test in the bios or set up. If the test fails in any area then the hard drive is bad and will need replaced. If it passes, then reformat the drive and reinstall XP.
