You need to play these files on VLC or in Media Player Classic. You can play almost any media file through them.
If you don't have any then you can download VLC media player from the following links:
for windows os zip file 16mb: http://videolan.cdn.cacheboy.net/vlc/0.9.9/win32/vlc-0.9.9-win32.exe
windows 26mb:http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/videolan/vlc/0.9.9/win32/vlc-0.9.9-win32.zip

& for mac 19mb: http://mirror.leaseweb.com/pub/software/videolan/vlc/0.9.9a/macosx/vlc-0.9.9a-intel.dmg

And if you want media player classic here is a link to download it: http://mirror01.x264.nl/x264/mpc2kxp6490.zip (212mb)

If these players cant play your files then might not have given enough time to download your torrent or must have downloaded corrupt file.

I assume that may be caused by codec issue. You can try other free media players. You could try Leawo Blu-ray Player which is a region free, Blu-ray player and it's a video player supporting a lot of video formats and audio formats.

Every time i open the GOM player it would ask for "FIND codec"

GOM Player includes many codecs (XviD, DivX, FLV1, AC3, OGG, MP4, H263) Along with different media format such as AVI, MPG, MPEG and DAT, GOM Player also supports streaming Windows media format (WMV, ASF, ASX).

Possible Reason:

* Ensure that you have downloaded a genuine version and not a broken file, which is likely to miss some codecs, GOM is a FREE media player with popular audio & video codecs built-in. So you won't need to install separate codecs for most videos. For those videos that require a separate codec, GOM Player will find one.

* Without the appropriate codec, you'll be prohibited from playing AV files/the codec for which the file you are playing is missing (playback error), which prompts you to "Find Codec" screen. In the case you need other codecs, the 'Find Codec' popup will assist you in searching for the correct codec to play your file. If you didn't find any: first reason is likely to be the issue.

Fixes:

*Search Result will be shown on a new internet page. Once youve found it, simply download and install to watch the AV files.

I downloaded an avi. movie from a bit torrent but when i go to play it it says i need a windows codec but i already have windows media player what do i do?

Hi,

Click on the link below and download VLC media player >>>>>>>

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Try load the AVI in that. If it still won't play then you have wasted your time downloading a fake file.
A good idea is to read any comments left on the torrent site you use before you download any files.

Computer video problem

Hi there

This is something you can try.

Go into My Computer.

Right click one of the video clips.

Select "Open With", then "choose program".

Now you should get a list of programs you can play the file with, the best ones are at the top.

Select Windows Media Player or Real Player.

Click OK.

Now if the video clip works OK....

Repeat the procedure, but this time check the box below that says "always open this type of files with the selected program".

Sync with Windows media player 11

Yes i know syncing is the easiest way to hook up archos to download files have you tried manually like drop & drag the files into the video folders? Some video formats work even in the new archos series some don't & you have to buy plugins. I personally didn't like using windows media player it reminds me too much of itunes

Windows media player problem

Hi Hardik,

Can you please open My Computer, which should list yrou drives. Click on Tools>Folder Option>File Type and scroll down till you see .avi.

Click on it, and it will show you software assigned to play .avi files. If it is not Media Player, click on Change, pick Media Player out of the list, then click on Ok and close those windows.
Next, click on this link, and then click on Download XP Codec Pack.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm

Save it to your deskop, or some place your can find it. Click on it and follow the prompts to install it.
If all that fails, may I suggest you download VLC, which seems to play any video file, here.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Click on Windows, pick a mirror, download VLC, save it somewhere you can find it, and just click on it to install.
Good luck!

File won't play video

The reason that the video is not playing is because the video uses certain "codecs" to decode the video. (It is basically a way that the computer interprets how to display the video on your screen.)

You need to install a good codec pack so that you can play all formats of video and/or audio.

I recommend using K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. It plays everything from Windows Media (AVI) to Quicktime files and just about everything in between. This is a very widely-used and popular codec pack. It also comes with a much simpler version of Windows Media Player. (It shows as an older version...and even looks like an older version, but it is only based on the older version as it honestly worked much better than newer versions.)

Here is the link.

(Click HERE to download the codec pack.)

Just use the DEFAULT installation. Don't change anything. There is no need to. Once it is installed, it will use the version of Windows Media Player that I just mentioned by default.

But if you still wish to use version of Windows Media Player that you currently have installed, then you may feel free to do so. It will still play videos using the same codecs that were installed by K-Lite. (All A/V programs will use the codecs.)

Another player I have recently found is GomPlayer. Very nice interface. Clean and easy to use. Install K-Lite and try out GomPlayer if you like afterwards.

HERE is a link. According to the site, you may not have to install any other codec packs after installing GOMPlayer. That may or may not be true. It IS OK if you install both.

Good luck. Let me know how it goes. :)
