Compaq presario laptop goes completely black (no start, nothing) after password is entered on welcome screen. I turn the unit and enter my p-word. It says "welcome" with the spinning circle for a rather long period of time and then goes directly to an all black screen. Re-booting gets the same result. Ctrl/alt/del does nothing, nor does esc. It was working fine last night.

You should also check your hardware on your computer. My laptop would sit at the post screen long enough that i just turned it off and tried choosing another key but come to find out there was a problem with my keyboard. I know it was the keyboard because i unplugged it and plugged it back in and now it starts up like a champ. But check cables, hard drives ram,key board etc and if you know for sure your hardware stated above is good then it could be a bad motherboard

Are you able to go safe mode? Reboot and when the logo appears, press f8 and select safe mode. If you are able to, you might want to run a antispyware or antivirus software.

Let me know if you are able to access that.

I have a presario cq61 and have forgot my password can u help

Try starting the computer in safe mode. Turn on the computer and once the COMPAQ screen clears press F8 a few times - don't hold down the key however. Winodws stops loading at teh Startup Options screen (black, text only). From that menu use the cursor keys and ENTER to select "Safe Mode". Once Windows loads (it may look humungous!), login as the Administrator (which should now be visible). Use this account to reset your forgotten user password. Restart once complete - the computer will automatically start normally.

When Booting My Compaq Presario 2100 It Goes To A Black Screen And Ask Enter Drivelock Password .Ihave Not Used Any Passwords .Can't Get Pass This ,Any Ideas? Richard

Try entering your "Setup" or "BIOS" and find the area for "Security". From there you should be able to change the password that it has on it. If your "Setup" or "BIOS" has a password on it and you don't know it, then it is likely that your laptop is worthless to you now. Unlike desktop computers that usually have a BIOS or CMOS reset on the motherboard, laptops seldom have this option. If your's has a RESET on it then it will likely be a little pin-hole on the bottom of the laptop that says RESET next to it.

Compaq Presario SR1000 won't boot up completely :(

Hi Thanks for your question
I would suggest to enter "safe mode" and then do system restore again. To do this you need to follow these steps.
1.Turn your PC on and press F8 on start up. This should take you to the screen asking what you want to do. 2. Choose safe mode from the list and press enter. 3. Once safe mode loads you should be asked if you want to restore your system to previous state. Just press no to run system restore and follow steps (you already know how to do this)
Shutting your computer down without closing operation system properly may cause start up issues like this one.
I hope this helps you. Good luck

I turn on my compaq presario c300 and it immediately take me to an enter power-on password screen

Hello,
A password on boot is not set by default. The owner activates this option. If some prankster or michief maker has entered a password on boot on your computer without your knowing it, there is nothing you can do, save taking the machine to an HP Certified Service Center to have the password removed or reset.
As the password on boot is a deterrent against computer thefts, you might be asked to show proof of ownership. This certainly is the case with Toshiba laptops.

Hope it helps.

Enter password app. on start up

You have set a password for your BIOS. Try all passwords you would have for something and if that doesn't work, try entering "Compaq".
