I can't play any VCR tapes or DVD's in my Magnavox. Shows E1

When I insert a VCR tape or a DVD, it shows E1, then runs for 7 seconds and shuts down. Does anyone know what E1 means?

Mine stays on for 16 seconds, then cuts off. When I power it back up it spits out the VCR tape and gives an E1 error. Whatever that means.

I've tried different tapes, even new blank tapes. No luck playing or recording. I've tried fast forwarding and rewinding, and it cuts off after 16 seconds of those as well.

Took off the top and tried to figure it out. Get this, when there is no light, the machine turns off. If you have a bright light shining in the front, everything works. Put the top back on without the light in the front, it quits again. I have hardly used this machine, could it be dust on some sensor that needs light? Pete

All it does when I put a tape in is run for about 7 seconds and then shuts down. Took off the top but can't figure out what's wrong.

I am having this problem too! It started the other day, then I put in Rudolph for my kids in the DVD player and it shuts off in there. Frustrating as all get out and it's only 1 month old. The VCR part doesnt work either. I hope this fix works when I set the time tonight. Will report back.

I have a similar problem, but my player turns off after about 8 seconds. Mine does not show an E1 error, but rather shows that there is a tape in the machine at all times (when there isn't).

Hi All, I realize this post may be a bit late for some but I just bought this unit myself on 12-22-08. After reading the pdf manual I downloaded from an earlier post the description of "E1" and "E2" is on page 20 and more details are on pages 35 & 36.

"E1" is the display indicator the unit is looking for a External input signal or Line Mode. "E1" External input on the rear, "E2" External input on the front. No signal present so the unit shuts off.

I suggest changing/setting your record channel or source before starting any record mode steps. Hope this helps.

It may be a timer setting after a power problem. On page 90 of the manual there are setups for the timers My VCR won't do things without the time set either. The manual may be downloaded here.

http://www.funai-corp.com/6pdf/om/MWR20V6.pdf

Basically get into the setups and set the time and hit enter. I hope this works.

Looking at the manual some more, you might want to set daylight setting to off and verify the record source is set correctly.

Power off when inserting vhs tape

I had this problem when copying an old family vhs tape. I had to unscrew the top of the magnavox to access the vhs tape. Then, I gently removed the tape and replaced the cover. After winding the tape back, I put it in the player and immediately pushed fast forward for about 3 seconds before hitting play followed by d.dubbing. I was able to make a copy of the tape and did not damage my original.

My Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD VCR Combo shuts down, after 5-10 seconds, following start-up (on/standby button). I saw "E1(rear)," on the TV screen, just before it shut down the last time. I suspect...

Before anything, I would attempt to see what the E1 code signifies. But usually when those things just shut themselves down it is because of a serious problem in the power supply. I think it is time to go shopping.

Magnavox VCR/DVD recorder model ZV450mw8. VCR plays a tape for 6 seconds then shuts the whole unit down.

You will need a technical person to open the unit. This problem can be as simple as a dirty sensor, or bad tape drive parts, or burned out computer chip.

Magnavox zv450mw8 Walmart VCR/DVD recorder. shuts off

on vcr's if the tape is hard to turn the tape will sense this and reject the tape. Try to get a tape that you can feel turn free eaiser. I would rewind it to the middle of the tape so each side is equal and it would make the tape run easier. If it runs ok then the unit is bad and is too sensitve to the pull on the tape. This is all designed in the electronics and there is not much you can do about it then get return it if you can.

My solution was to call my warranty company. I'm sending it in and getting my money back. They said it would cost more to fix it than I paid for it.

This recorder only records inline. This means that there is no channel on recorder. It records whatever your satellite or cable box is showing. You'll have to change the channel on that.

I don't know that this will work for timed recording. You'll have to make sure that your cable/satellite is on and set to the proper channel before you leave. This wont work if you're recording multiple shows on different channels while you're gone. In that case you may need a different recorder.
