Cannot adjust brightness

Y580, Fn doesn't work and neither does the control panel. The bar will move but nothing happens.

Certain power settings in Windows will make brightness at full or minimum (sometimes given certain conditions like plugged into power or not). To change go to power settings in Windows and customize or change settings to allow you to change brightness.

1. Try to use an external monitor. Possible problem on the LCD.

bright ness buttons are indicted witha sun like mark . they r usaly used with fn keys look for that keys

This looks to be a software issue. if the slider in the control panel is off, and it is not responding with the Fn key. then you should check the display adaptor in device manager. install the appropriate driver if needed.

Generally, the function key only works when you are running on battery. you can adjust the brightness at the power options. Go to start, control panel, power options, edit plan settings. Move the slider to adjust your brightness.

Try going to control panel, then device manager, and try right clicking and updating all drivers that have to do with graphics or your screen. If this doesn't do the trick then try finding the display drivers manually.

The brightness of my laptop is very high
There should be a function key (usually labeled "FN") on the keyboard. There will probably also be buttons with brightness adjustment labels on them. Usually the arrow up/down keys adjust your brightness while the FN key is pressed. The adjustment keys are usually labeled with a picture of the sun with an up or down arrow beside it - almost always in a different color than the letters on your keys [maybe light blue?]. Otherwise you may have to adjust it via software in the control panel. Good luck.

Examine the keyboard. There should be a symbol on most of the function keys (F1, F2, etc.). Look for one that looks like a sun or lightbulb, either with an arrow pointing up or with the sun/lighbulb filled in. Hold the 'Fn' key, and tap the up/bright sun/lightbulb key a few times. The screen should increase in brightness.

If you cannot find the specified keys, you may be able to adjust brightness from inside Windows. Right click on the battery icon in the taskbar and open 'power options'. Look for a sun and moon with a sliding bar between them. You might also be able to adjust brightness by customizing your desktop (right click on the desktop and look for the proper menu).

Cant turn the brightness down on my asus netbook
You should be able to use the "FN" key and "F5" key, press and hold the "Fn" key then while holding that key, press the "F5" key to decrease the brightness. Use the same(Fn) key and "F6" to increase the brightness.

Fn birghtness key not working
If the "fn" key works with other "fn" command buttons it may be the drivers. Your machine came with a CD of drivers. I would visit Dell's Support website, plug in your "Service Tag" number (found on a label on your machine) and download the latest if your CD is missing. Re-install these drivers. Look into the "Dell Quickset Utility."
