Daughter's t40 repeatedly crashed (been setting for a year from this problem. Decided to finally look at it. After numerous attempts of recycling the power switch, got it to boot. Upgraded every patach from Microsoft and updated every driver. Performed a scan disk, recovered a few lost files.
Machine now has service pack 3 XP Pro, 1 yr old 80G hitachi drive (original IBM 40 G died a couple of years ago (IBM wanted $500 for a 40 G drive!!). New Cisco wireless.
Was using the machine and same problem occurred and now won't reboot. Even tried booting from XP installation CD. Machine turns on and fan runs. End of story. When I tried re-booting from CD, the drive was accessed. Bios was upgraded when I installed 80G Drive.

I am thinking of upgrading RAM to 2G from current of 512M. I noticed that she did not have both battery locking clips fastened. I removed the battery and reseated it, locked both tabs and so far, knock on wood, it has been working. The power supply change sounds like a good idea.
Thanks
