Every diesel has an electric solenoid that shuts the fuel off when you turn the key off. I suspect that is your problem but I don't know where it is exactly on a Ford. It should be mounted on or near the injector pump.

try some fuel injector cleaner or replace fuel injectors or fuel filter

Un firtunetly pumps with some age on them tend to lock up when ran dry. try hitting the bottom of the gas tank about in the center or where you think the pump may be. The vibration usually knocks them loose and they start pumping again. You might have to smack the tank 2 or 3 times. You will still need to replace the pump because they can continue to lock everytime you shut the car off. And eventually you wont be able to smack the tank to get it going.

ok on that model of bmw you need to change the mass air flow sensor it controlls the injectors that alow it gas i had the same issue with my old bmw

blocked gas line / reg not working/blocked burner orfice needs cleaning , try these

Sounds like a fuel issue if you have run it dry, maybe a blocked fuel filter, or maybe it needs new spark plugs, check the air filter as well.

think electrical 1st itz the weakest link-have you done a toonup-chec plug wires for wear or failure also distributer system up to 100,000 volts are used -these things fail from the heat 2nd test the fuel pump or pressure reg for gas inspect total ride for loose wires etc consider a scan 3rd

Sounds like that battery and alternator may be bad. The car will not run if the voltage is too low.Most autoparts stores will check for free....

try pulling put and replacing spark plugs if they are full of fuel. good luck!
