Capt Jeff has the most common problem. I have also found the flexable wire coming from under the fly wheel has caused this same symptom. Hook up a timing light to the ignition wires at the spark plug and spin the motor while advancing the throttle. If the ig faulters during the spark advance- thats the problem.

1957 johnson outboard 10 hp fuel mixture ratio

https://www.google.com/search?q=1957+johnson+outboard+10+hp+fuel+oil+ratio

What is the mix ratio for a Johnson outboard motor?

Any Johnson outboard motor built since 1964 requires a 50/1 fuel ratio. Motors built prior to that date require a 32/1 ratio, with the exception of a few fishing motors built prior to 1955 that use a 16/1 ratio.

I have a 50hp johnson outboard at full throttle it lags in power will not plan out but if I restrict or pinch fuel line between motor and the inline bulb it plans out nice runs perfect.

The fuel line from the tank to the engine may be collapsing as the pump demands more pressure! If you know someone with a fuel line with the same ends, ask to borrow it! If the problems goes away, invest in a new fuel line. When this engine was built ethanol was NOT being mixed into gasoline. Ethanol will melt some of the older fuel hoses (including those under the engine cover). Good luck!

1973 Johnson 65 hp outboard. It runs smooth, but won't accelerate at full throttle.

have the carby professionally overhauled
replace all rubber hoses from the tank , including having the fuel pump overhauled
the rubber parts break down and deposit small bits rubber in all of the jets in the carby

1993 Johnson outboard while running good will go from full throttle to barely running sometimes 5500 to 2500rpm. Carburetors rebuild gas lines good and good spark.

If your boat has a inboard tank check the Anti Siphon valve. Try to run the outboard on a separate fuel tank to isolate the fuel source to see if it is the boat or the engine. A clogged vent line will also do that.

My 1988 johnson outboard 50 hp motor dies off when given full throttle

Any fuel filters? If the fuel line is old I would replace it due to the ethanol in gas. If not that then clean the carburater, high speed jet may be clogged.

35hp Johnson evinrude outboard not running at full potential

Hi, did you buy your engine used? Sounds like your gonna have to get the carb or carbs cleaned. Its possible you could have a stopped up fuel filter, or not enough spark but i am guessing its gonna be the carbs. They got some gunk in em i bet. Probably old fuel turned to gunk from setting up. I had the same problem on my 40 horse.

Need to know how to set up carb on 1985 johnson outboard. front adj on the carb got moved looking for starting point to get me close to running.

try disconnecting the throttle cable, loosen carb linkages, assure that both carbs are FULL closed....tighten linkage - and cable ...check for FULL open and close with the throttle....this will be your starting point, advise to get a service manual for your outboard model to correctly adjust the carbs for max performance....GL hope this helps..
