On ALL Panasonic Toughbook Models,
if the screen stays dark I would shut-off the
Toughbook and connect an external monitor
to the VGA port (15-pin female connector),
which is usually BLUE in color.

Make sure the monitor is ON first, then
turn ON the Toughbook.

If the monitor comes on then your problem
is the backlight or possibly the inverter of the
screen.

If no image is shown on the external monitor
and the screen stays dark and you cannot
hear any startup (ie. Windows) sound, then
your video card may be defective. Very few
Toughbooks fail this way since they are
normally very very relaible but it can happen.

Good Luck

My screen will not come on

Replace it with a new LCD Inverter, you can address the following issues:
Screen image, but the power light stays in
Dark display, but still readable
Flashing on and off of the screen between 1/2 to several seconds
The power indicator stays on, but no display and sound
Screen images, but LCD TV still has sound
Picture cycle on and off, as well as high-power LED lights

After booting my screen goes dark

Goes dark or just stays dark ? if stays dark then it is the GPU causing problems as it has got too hot at some point, possibly due to lack of ventilation underneath. What sometimes works for me is to turn the machine on and flip it over and rest it on say a tea towel, but have the screen overhang the edge of table so it doesnt damaged it. Then, you need to cover vents and let the machine heat up for say around 10 mins. After this time, turn machine off and back on again, and you will find the screen will come back on. You should then be able to use machine as normal, but keep all vents clear. Some folk might think this is barmy, but trust me it works on most, HP, Compaq, Dells etc.

Screen keeps going into darkness at start-up

Hi
The screen kept winking out because the brightness setting was too dark, something to do with the tolerance perhaps?

Sounds like start, but screen stays dark,

Not even beeping? Hard to tell from such little info. HDD doesn't work, CPU stays cold, that would indicate a motherboard problem, but then it would beep most of the times. It can be a a problem with your screen, but that doesn't add upp with the HDD, and the CPU staying cool (bye the way, how do you know that?)
I think you should take it to someone who can take a closer look on it.
