Nikon D80 no picture number in LED & menu not working

My Nikon D80 doesn't recognize any of my SD cards anymore, i.e. number of pictures is not displayed in LED in either On or Off position, and the colour screen does not work either - no picture playback and no menu. The other functions on the LED still seem to work, but not sure if pictures taken are now actually saved on the SD card. Swapping cards, replacing the battery and using the Reset button don't fix the problem.
This happened after I used someone else's SD card from their Kodak Easyshare camera in my D80 in order to download their pictures onto their PC (as they didn't have their own USB cable)...
Does anyone have advise on how to fix this problem? Thank you!!!

    Thanks fblock for your comment.
I've contacted Nikon in the meantime; apparently the USB connection caused a voltage issue and the processor needs to be replaced.... ouch!

I wonder if there's any chance your firmware got whacked. I'd contact Nikon support to see if you can re-install the formware on the D80.

Format the SD cards with the camera. You might have to do a software upgrade on the camera since the Kodak card files are different than Nikons.

SOURCE: my nikon d80 f number keep blinking. what should

The "fEE" error indicates that the camera is not communicating with the lens. The lens may not be attached to the camera properly, or if it has an aperture ring, it may not be set to f22 (or the highest aperture number of the lens) - which is normally marked in orange. Select this aperture and lock it using the aperture locking switch to prevent this from occuring again.

There is Full showing and blinking when i pressed the shutter of my Nikon D80

This indicates that your SD card is full and should be replaced with an empty card. If the new card has never been used before, be sure to format it. If you don't have another card, download the pictures from the full card then erase or format the card and you can then reinstall it in the camera. The numbers on the lower left side of the control panel show the number of shots remaining on the SD card.

Everything on control panel is flashing. Can't operate camera.

Hi Shirley,

It sounds like your camera's CPU is stuck in a loop. First, I'd remove and transfer any pictures on the SD card in a card reader connected to your computer, followed by formatting the card. Leave the SD card out of the D80. Set the power switch on the D80 to "off" and install a freshly charged battery. If it is still flashing, a "Full Reset" may help.

Nikon recommends that a full reset be done only under direction of Nikon staff. The procedure is outlined along with graphics on this page under "Full reset". I suggest calling Nikon support to see if they think this procedure (or maybe another that they have) will solve the problem.

I unplugged my Nikon D80 from the computer without clicking the safe to eject drive button and now it seems to be stuck in PC mode!

Try resetting the camera by removing the battery for 20 mins, then replace the battery and go to the Menu setting and set the Date and time.

My Nikon d80 shows the msg as card is locked, how ever i tried to solve the problem by sliding it to write position. Can someone can help me rite now?

Here is a diagram to show the correct position of the switch.

Good big picture and it doesn't matter that it has Canon written on the SD card in the picture the SD card is interchangeable between the two makes.

Now one other thing that may also be the problem is that the SD card needs to be formatted to the camera. Formatting should be done on new memory cards and after you have downloaded pictures to the computer. That's format not delete, delete leaves a mess on the card Formatting cleans the card and provides proper communications between the camera and the memory card

Help! I picture without having the memory card in. I could see them on the LCD screen after I took them but now I can't get the camera menu back to the screen that would allow me to see them.

Those pictures are gone. The D80 has enough internal memory to hold one picture so you can see how it works. In order to save pictures, you MUST have a memory card in the camera.

Be sure you don't have the SD card loked (look at the tab on the SD card itself). You may be seeing CHA or something similar in the viewfiner too.
