Guardian generac 10kw model 5502 does not output correct voltage

The generac manual does not indicate how to adjust the 10kw model 5502 voltage. This model uses the small V-twin engine but is connected to the same generator as the 8kw model. To adjust the 8kw model the manual says to adjust the engine governor and the 12 to 20kw models have voltage adjustment potentiometer to adjust voltage. There is no mention on how to adjust the voltage for the 10kw model.

I'm currently getting 105v line to neutral and 210v line to line. Any help would be appreciated.

the instructions say to NOT apply load to the generator until the voltage is in the recommended range. in this case (ie the 10kW set) the line to line range is 220 to 230 volts. i'm getting only 210 volts. How do you manually change the motor speed? and what is the best device or instrument to check the frequency? why would adding load INCREASE the voltage? i'm reluctant to add load which may harm my electronic devices and motors with under voltages.

I put a small load of a few lights on the generator and low and behold
the voltage shot up into the normal range. I continued to add load
including two freezers, a refrigerator, TV, two pumps and three rooms
of lights. The voltage stayed in range and I am now satisfied that the
generator is running properly. It appears that the electronic voltage
regulator needs to sense a load before it actuates the governor. This
is a nice feature, in that the weekly exercise will run at a lower RPM
and save a few gallons of LP gas.

    Thanks for your help.

The instructions says the voltage regulator is automatic/digital. when you check the voltage is there any load on the generator? if applying load to the generator doesn't help, you can manually change the motor speed where the governor connects to the carborator, but it may change the frequency, but the regulator may fix it

applying load will increase the excitation current (its how the generator knows to start making electricity) anyways, i usually use a shop light for my load, you can't hurt them with low voltage. the adjustments for the motor speed will be mechanical (prob. a screw or linkage) i would call customer service if all this fails, they actually help pretty good

13w guardian generac generator 054960 doesn't charge battery

Check "F1" fuse.

If fuse is good, check voltage at battery.

With either utility power present or generating running, the voltage at the battery should be >13VDC. Any reading less than 12.7VDC is battery voltage and indicates a failed charging circuit.

The battery is overcharging either by the external charger or by the engine alternator. This is causing the battery to "boil" realeasing hrdrogen gas. One spark or high current demand from cranking can cause this. Have it checked by a pro

Battery does not stay charged on my 20kw generac generator

WAS A 110 VOLT CIRCUIT RAN TO IT FROM THE NORMAL UTILITY POWER OF HOME OR BUILDING IT FEEDS?
NORMALLY THIS IS DONE IN A SEPERATE CONDUIT FOR CONTROL WIRES.AND THE FEEDERS ARE IN ANOTHER CONDUIT.
WITH A DIGITAL TEST METER,CHECK FOR 120 VOLTS AT THE BATTERY CHARGER IN THE GENERATOR CABINET.USUALLY THERE IS A RECEPTICAL TO PLUG THE CHARGER INTO.
IF VOLTAGE IS PRESENT AT THE BATTERY CHARGER AND INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE ON, CHANGE METER TO DC AND CHECK FOR 13.8 VOLTS OUTPUT FROM THE BATTERY CHARGER.IF YOU HAVE OUTPUT VOLTAGE TO THE BATTERY,AND IT IS DEAD,CHANGE THE BATTERY..

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU,BEST OF LUCK.....

Check the automatic voltage regulator .Or if you have a bad neutral connection one leg will be very high and one leg low causing damage to sensitive equiptment.

I have a 10 KW Generac Guardian Stand By withe a prwired EZ transfer swithc. Everything works except the 12 volts battery charger. What could be the problem. Only have three weeks innstalled.

Your generator is equipped with a battery trickle
charger that is active when your unit is set up for
automatic operation. The trickle charger is
designed to help extend the life of your battery by
maintaining the battery when the unit is
not running.
you will need to review which circuit bord controls this and have that board replaced or serviced some of these gen heads have this built in and it will be the rectifier in the gen it self it will be a black 1x1x3/8 inch with a mounting hole in the center and 4 lug post for the wires replace this and your issue should be solved but consult your dealer for witch unit you have as to a control board external or the built in rectifier hope this helps.

No electrical output

It is possible that your voltage regulator is shot but before purchasing the volt regulator try flashing the fields first and make sure the brushes and rings are clean.
