Pool pump motor wiring issue

I have an A O Smith 1 HP pool pump motor. I have disconnected it from the pump (Jacuzzi Magnum pump) and am trying to put it back on but I did not tag the wiring. What I need to know is which wire goes where. There are three wires, 1 each, green, red and black (the shortest) On the motor is L1 and L2 connections and then above them there is another screw where a wire goes. Any idea what goes where? BTW, this site forces you to type in an exact brand, model but the site does not contain the one I have so I picked the closest one.

Yes, the screw above is on the metal housing. I will try the green wire there and let you know. Thanks. I guess L1 and L2 it doesn't matter red or black. Will try later.

IF THE SCREW ABOVE IS IN THE METAL MOTOR HOUSING IT IS MOST LIKELY THE GROUND. GREEN WIRES ARE ASSOCIATED WITH GROUND IN ALL ELECTRICAL APPLICATIONS. YOU SHOULD BE SAFE IN HOOKING THE GREEN TO THE SCREW. HOPE THIS HELPS, JODY

Leaky Motor

This sounds like it could be the shaft seals, which is a cheap fix.
The Jacuzzi Magnum calls for seal 35-423-1021
You might consider replacing the seal plate O-Ring as well. - 35-105-1120

You should be able to remove the diffuser and then the impeller to gain access to the shaft seal on these pool pumps. Your users manual should have a diagram.

Motor runs for 10 seconds and shuts off

I believe it is your starting capacitor, It is a long round thing usually black that has two wires, this is what makes it kick on. just us rubber handled pliars when disconnecting the other one. because it holds electricity. You can get one at a hardware or pool supply, usually 10.00 or so...I hope this helps

We are having issues getting the impeller apart on the jacuzzi magnum force pool pump and need some instructions on how to proceed.

I believe the jacuzzi pump impeller has a locking screw directly in the middle of the impeller. You'll have to turn it clockwise to remove it. Then you'll need to remove the cover from the back of the motor using a 1/4" nut driver. Depending on the motor, you should be able to use a 7/16" open end wrench to hold the motor shaft from turning as you turn the impeller counter-clockwise to remove it. Some motors are different, some have a keyed shaft or require a special tool to hold the shaft while the impeller is removed. Hope this helps.

My pump is running however it's pressure is less than 10 psi and the heater on the pool will not run.

With the Jacuzzi Magnum pool pumps, low pressure is going to likely be cause by one of the issues below. Try these troubleshooting tips.

1.Pump not primed

2.Leakage of air into suction system

3.Impeller clogged

4.Valve in suction or discharge line partly closed or suction or discharge line partly plugged or too small. 5.Plugged basket in skimmer or hair in lint strainer.

6.Dirty filter.

If the rotation is going the wrong way, simply switch the black to T2
Red to T1.

Check this before you couple it to the pump..

Do Magnum Force Pumps have a reset switch ?

No jacuzzi magnums do not have a reset button. First make sure breaker to pool is off, then remove rear motor cover, and take a look. Popping noise sounds like an arked wire. Could be a bad terminal or just aloose power wire. JACUZZI PUMPS ARE GOOD QUALITY, AND USSUALLY RUN FOR MANY YEARS. Pump can be removed for repaair, or motor replacemant by a qualified, and republe pool shop, for rebuilding Ussually rebuilding is about half the cost of new. Kirk
