Reassembling the Hitachi NR 83A2 (S) magazine

I have a problem with my a Hitachi NR 83A2 (S). By mistake I loaded a strip of 1/2 round nails and two jammed.  In order to get the nails free the magazine was partially disassembled.  Now, is there any manual which will show how to re-assemble? We can't get the ribbon spring back in place and connected.

I reassembled the magazine on a Hitachi NR83A last night. It was very easy but it needs to be done in a specific manner. Getting the ribbon spring installed is probably the most important piece. Refer to the diagram at http://www.ereplacementparts.com/hitachi... for part orientation.

Assuming the screw holding the spring in place has been removed and the ribbon spring needs reinstalled, here's how I did it:
    1. Completely remove the magazine from the gun by loosening all of the bolts holding it in place.

    2. Install the stop lever at the bottom of the magazine and ensure the stopper spring is properly positioned. You should see a tiny hole next to the bolt hole in the magazine where the center of the stopper spring will engage once installed. Position it and tighten the bolt holding the lever in place. It needs to be tight but loose enough to allow the lever to move.

    3. Position the ribbon spring in to the nail feeder mechanism and slide the assembly in to the top of the magazine.

    4. Hold the end of the ribbon spring with the hole in place using duckbill pliers with one hand and slide the nail feeder down the magazine barrel with the other hand until it engages the stop lever. Use a helper's hand if available to hold the pliers.

    5. While holding the end of the ribbon spring in place, slowly position the magazine over the nose of the gun so the bolt holes align on the nose and the top of the magazine. The spring will be between the magazine and bolt holes on the nose.

    6. Slowly retract the end of the ribbon spring with the hole until it is in alignment with the bolt holes on the magazine and nose of the gun.

    7. Install the bolt & washers through the magazine, ribbon spring, and in to the nose of the gun. Release the pliers. Tighten down. Once installed, the ribbon spring is in place.

    8. The rest is easy. Reinstall the magazine in accordance with the diagram referenced above. FYI...use metric tools.

The reason that you are having trouble re-assembling the ribbon spring is that you need three hands to complete the job. As you recall the nail pusher just slips into the front of the rails. The pusher has the spring and a pin to retain the spool in place. Install the spring with the bolt hole towards leaver and slip into the front of rails. Take a small paper clip and bend a small hook to catch the ribbon spring. Hook the springs bolt hole with the paper clip and hold the spring in the approximate position for bolt as you push the assembly into rails and use latch to hold. While holding spring with paperclip, insert bolt thru rails and spring into nosepiece. Just break off the paperclip at this point and you are almost done. Some nailers have a metal support clip that you would need to have in place on bolt before installing bolt thru spring. For a breakdown of the gun go to www.toolpartsdirect.com. The other bolt for rails has a support/guide for the safety foot. Good luck and email if you have questions.

I reassembled the magazine on a Hitachi NR83A last night. It was very easy but it needs to be done in a specific manner. Getting the ribbon spring installed is probably the most important piece. Refer to the diagram at http://www.ereplacementparts.com/hitachi-nr83a-31434-full-head-nailer-parts-c-7927_13310_16045.html for part orientation.

Thank you so much. After much unsuccessful googling. I finally googled:"where does the ribbon spring attach hitachi" I had nails stuck sideways in magazine and couldn't get them out, so I started taking it apart and after springs sprung I was just stumped by how the end of the spring attached. When I first read through your steps I didn't understand, but going slowly through your steps I got it.

Driver slides over the top of the nail bending it and jamming it. It will drive the 1st nail then jams.

Most jamming is caused by either wrong type of nail in gun or the driver blade tip is no longer square. Easy to check both. With nails removed strike nose of gun down against rubber mat or soft wood to move driver down for examination. It should look square. If edges look rounded or chipped, remove driver and use grinder to adjust. To check nails for good fit, lay a strip of nails on the magazine. Align the first nail with the center line of the path of the driver. The rest of the strip of nails should align with the angle of the rails on the magazine + or - 5 degrees ok but any more difference will cause jam. Good luck

I have a Hitachi NR 83A2 nail gun, it still fires a nail, the firing pin retracts but then slowly comes out and stays out. Is there a seal kit available for this problem?

Sounds like you have worn valves or damaged o-rings. Unfortunately Hitachi does not make a rebuild kit for your nail gun. If you go to www.ereplacementparts.com you can find an excellent breakdown of your tool and either order the parts you need there or use the part numbers to search the web for prices and availability. Your tool is on the old side and some parts are no longer available.

My nt50ae2 brad nailer jams in the magazine. the feeder rides on top of the nails.

This happens. The follower jumps over the nails and the magazine binds.

Step 1. Remove nails, unplug hose.
Step 2. Remove the bolt at the bottom of the magazine with a 2.5mm hex key.
Step 3. Remove the magazine while holding the nail follower in place to the magazine cover.
Step 4. Carefully remove the nail follower and gently extend the yellow warning indicator and follower spring.
Step 6. Inspect the nail follower. There should be 3 indentations that are stamped into nail follower face. This is the culprit.
Step 7. With a small punch, make these three indentations deeper.
Step 8. Assemble and test. Repeat if necessary.

Hope this helps.

Nail gun will not fire the nail. Compressor works fine. Hammer doesn't retract enough to hit nail? Cause, solution?

could be a jammed nail in the magazine nose area, bent driver blade or problem with the o ring being worn.

Jammed nail in it how do i get it out with out paying to fix it

unplug the air from tool, depending on where the nail is jammed you might want to remove the magazine to get to the back of the nose assembly, some have a quick release for this reason. then depending on the jam you might have to take a punch and knock the driver back up to remove the nail. Hopefully it is not jammed that hard

I have a hitachi NR 83A2 framing nailer with a jammed firing pin. How do I unjam it? I have the exploded diagram. thx. andrea

by jammed I take it you mean a nail has jammed the driver? If that is the case there is really no easy to unjam it. But unplug the air hose and turn tool upside down and wearing safety glasses and gloves you can try and take a punch smaller than the nose piece and try hitting the driver to unjam nail. If it is another problem please let me know and I will try and help more.. Sometimes we used to have to remove the nose and heat and it goes on but hopefully it is not that bad

Hitachi model 83A2 - nail is 1/8 " of being flush to the wood

there is an adjustment on the front of the tool for the depth of the nail, make sure it is set for the wood being used. If it is then you might have a problem with the o ring being dry and not allowing the piston to fully insert the nail. Let me know and I will try and help further.

Hitachi 83a2 (s) framing nailer jamed, there are 2 nails in cylinder, not sure how to clear the chamber. .

1.Remove the air hose
2.Hold the nose down on a 2x4 on the ground. Make sure the safety guide is full depressed.
3.Squeeze the trigger.

(I realize that sounds redundant, but I have to insure your safety as much as possible. We at FixYa want you to be safe. A Framer Nailer can be dangerous if safety precautions aren't observed)

4.Pull the slide back, and grab around it with your hand, up against the back of the gun. (Magazine)
If you accidentally bump the latch lever, the slide won't spring forward, possibly causing you injury by using this method.

5.Remove any nails. Pull the plastic strip of nails out.

6.The method I use here is to rest the air chamber cover on a table. (Top of the gun) Nose AWAY from your face. I use a small flat tip screwdriver, and see if I can move the Driver back up into the gun. Then see if I can ease one nail out at a time, by moving the nail down out of the nose.

You have two nails trying to drive out at the same time. They need to be separated from each other, so that you can get one nail out at a time.

Most of the time this occurs because of lack of lube. The gun is supposed to have 4 to 5 drops of pneumatic oil, added to the air hose inlet before starting the day out.

(Gun is faced so that the air inlet connection is straight up, oil is added, while the trigger is being squeezed in at the same time)

I don't rely on oilers in the air line. I think they're a bunch of hooey. I've had very few problems, when I have added oil manually at the start of the day.

Sometimes using those 'bargain' nails will cause a problem also. If you find a brand of nails that are cheap, this is the usual result.

Sometimes we framers are too fast on the trigger, and do not have the safety guide fully depressed, before firing the next 'shot'.

If you have further questions please post them.
