System recovery on a gateway 6214 laptop

Try This:
    • 1 Back-up any important files to an external hard drive, if at all possible, before proceeding.
    • 2 Place the Windows Install CD into the computer's optical drive. Restart the computer with the disc inside. As the computer starts up, it will prompt you to press any key to boot into the Windows Install CD, press any key to do so
    • 3
Press "Enter" to bypass the "Welcome to Setup" screen. Press "F8" to accept the Windows License Agreement. Windows Setup will ask if you'd like to install any available updates to the operating system. If you currently have a (wired) Internet connection, download the updates. If you do not, you can install the updates after the restore completes.
    • 4 Select the "Custom" installation route. Select the internal hard drive as the installation destination. Press "D" to delete any and all data on the hard drive. Confirm this action by pressing "L". Press "C" to create a new partition to install Windows. You will need to use the "NTFS" file system, as this is the Windows default.
    • 5 Continue the installation by following any on-screen instructions. You will be asked for the Product Key, your region/time zone and to create a name for the computer. The whole re-installation, reformat and restore process will take a little over an hour. Once complete, the computer will reboot to apply the finishing touches. Remove the Windows Install CD at this point to avoid booting back into the disc. The Gateway laptop will launch into a freshly restored Windows installation.

Computer restarted during restore while trying to install windows 7 now wont work. An error pops up saying...... The computer restarted unexpecttedly or encountered an unexpected error. To install windows...

hi Mike.
this is all i could find.
Try the following...

1. Power off the laptop.
2. Power on the laptop.
3. As soon as you see the rotating loading circle, press and hold the Power Button until the computer shuts off.
4. Repeat this process a few times until you see the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen.
5. Now you want to let the laptop boot to the "Automatic Repair" screen.
6. Click "Advanced Options" and then select "Troubleshoot".
7. Here you want to select "Refresh your PC", if you do not wish to erase data, or "Reset your PC" to erase all data and restore your system.
8. From here just follow the screen instructions until the recovery is completed.

NOTE: You will need to get into the "Advanced Options" in order to get the "Refresh Option". This choice will keep your data, but any programs installed will be lost.

Do not do a "Reset" as that will wipe all data you have on the laptop.

How to format my laptop

Normal 0

To format the hard disk and re-install Windows use the Windows installation CD, and the Windows Product Code on the label at the bottom of your laptop.

Boot up using the Windows installation CD and follow the instructions.

One of the installation early steps, the option to delete the existing partition, then create a new partition and then a full format on this partition (don't do a quick format) and complete the Windows installation.

Next install all of the Toshiba's computer/laptop device drives.

Next install the Windows service packs (SP2 & SP3 for XP, SP1 & SP2 for Vista)

Next Activate Windows via the Internet or by phone.

Next install your programs - Microsoft Office etc.
Next click on Start - Programs - Windows Update (for the latest updates).

Continuously rooboot itself?

Hi.

When the laptop keeps rebooting shortly after Windows starts loading the reason is usually because the system files loaded by Windows at startup are corrupted.
Windows cannot complete booting and keeps restarting.
The fastest way to Fix the problem is by reinstalling Windows.
If Windows is installed on the same directory of the existing system performing an upgrade installation, the setup process will preserve all personal files, most installed software and settings.
Before reinstalling Windows you can try starting in safe mode (eg. on XP pressing f8 on startup). If the computer starts in safe mode, go to system restore and perform a restore to a date before the problem occurred. Unfortunately when the computer keeps re-booting ut will hardly start in safe mode. Often reinstalling Windows is the only option available.
