Konica Minolta 1690MF causing Fuser Paper Jam error when printing color. Does NOT happen when printing black and white. (Paper is genuinely stuck entering the fuser). Why is the problem happening for color but not B/W?

I know this is a very old thread, but I'm encountering exactly the same thing. I can print "This is a test." in black and white with great results. If I change the period to any color, I get a Fuser Jam. 100% reproducible. Anyone have any ideas for diagnosing/fixing? Thanks much!

The problem is in weakened solenoid's (SD2) spring (10). That solenoid located under metal cover (13) on left side of 1690MF (if look at front of them). Required solenoid has red wires. Remove metal cover with 3 screw, unscrew solenoid and just slightly stretch spring (10). That is all.

I was wondering if the original poster of this problem found a solution. My printer does the EXACT same thing. B & W printing is perfect. Any color print jams in the fuser. The printer feeds the paper too far (from thin copy paper to cardstock) so that the top of the page is cut off. Konica sent me a new fuser but that did not solve the problem. Again, this only happens when printing any page that has color on it (even a document with only one letter in color). B&W printing is unaffected.

If anyone else stumbles across this page because they are having this problem, I advise you to call Konica Minolta. I did, and even though my printer was 2 years old, they still sent me a refurbished replacement unit because the timing error with color prints originated in the motherboard of the printer and is not easily replaceable. This printer model is no longer manufactured but they do have some refurbs in their warehouse. I was really happy with the service I received. They even sent the replacement via 2nd day air and it didn't cost me a thing. The refurb is working perfectly (knock on wood).

I tried this, but they (KM) insisted it was the fuser and sent me a new fuser unit. I installed it, and of course it did nothing. It's weird that this problem only shows up after a few years. Oh well, I'm selling mine on ebay, maybe somebody can use it for parts.

Might be software issue. Check to see if you can get tech out to flash the Machines operating system NOT DRIVERS!

Have you replaced the transfer roller which might not properly transferring the colors but is ok with simple b/w.

I replaced the pickup roller, but no changes. I cleaned all roller, and I checked all gear wheel, but I did not find any problem. I tried to lock the paper sensor in the fuser (both, on and off states) but it does not give me any new info. The paper stops exactly the same position in any cases with printing in color. Color printing is an other method what the B&W printing use. Print starts a paper pickup and stops for waiting for the drum work (about 4-6 sec), than continue to push the paper through. While B&W printing, not stops the paper movement, and works well. :-O

The problem is solved by stretching the spring of the solenoid. Look my answer: http://www.fixya.com/support/t19699283-k...

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

The only solution is to take the fuser unit out of the printer, then you may be able to manually rotate the rollers to clear the jam. If there are any marks or scratches on the fuser rollers, you will need to replace the fuser unit, or you will get marks on your prints

When printing color the paper jams. This does not happen when printing black. How do I stop it from jamming when printing color.

Is that true for both print and copy job ?
Where does the jam happen ?

I am thinking if it is at the paper pickup roller area just as the job starts to print and not midway while printing, check the paper quality; dirty pickup roller; clean cork pad and try job from another tray

Why does my Konica Minolta 1690MF have a fuser jam error whenever I print in color?

Everything you checked sound good. Might be printer software problem, and needs to be re-flashed. Software only available from secure web site that a technician would have, see what it cost if to much buy a new one with extra bells and whistles !

Could be that it is printing a legal print on letter paper. This causes a timing error which appears as a jam. If it is accordion folding behind the exit rollers the paper could be hanging on the exit sensor flag. If it accordian folds in the fuser then the fuser needs replacing.
