5 year old whirlpool gold French door botoom freezer makes popping sounds after compressor comes on for 5-10 seconds. This started several weeks ago. I cleaned out behind and underneath it, moved it further away from the wall and still it continues every time the compressor kicks on. It only occurs after the compressors starts no clicks before. Fridge interior and freezer are cool as normal. The popping is annoying. Any ideas?

Most of the time on a whirlpool the problem is the relay on the compressor sometimes called the start device. I would replace that first. If you need help finding the part let me know. i have a side by side and the refrigerator side is not cooling

If you have already tried shutting off for 24 hrs. (reset), cleaning the under-bed condenser fins (vacuum and/or compressed air) and the issue still continues, you may be lucky enough to just need a relay/overload switch; the thingy connected to the compressor, which by the way takes patience and ease in removing. However, once the plastic cover is off, simply unplug the relay switch(s) and shake it, if you hear rattling (or) smell burn, the relay is toast and thus needs replacement. Simple enough, for replacement type in the model # of the compressor: (i.e.) [[ Embraco FGS 80 with relay/overload switch ]] cost around ($30-$50)... order, replace, re-plug, and if on target, the compressor will kick in. let run for 24 hours before adding foods, and all is good. The overload/relay on the compressor is shorted . This is the piece with 2 or 3 wires connected to it , mounted on the compressor . The part # you need is 8201786 . Complete mounting instructions , come with this kit . Easily replaceable .

Clean out the coils at the very bottom of the refrigerator from all of that lint/dust buildup it makes your system inefficient
