You will have to connect it to a computer using the usb port. thats the only way to charge it once the battery gets real low. my unit did the same thing.

Low battery

You need to plug it into to the cigarette lighter or your pc. I take mine in the house and connect it to the pc to charge, but it will charge with the cigarett lighter too.

'93 Jeep won't start - used cigarette lighter for gps instead of power socket

Sounds like a bit of a stretch... (nah).

"Lighter" is a GREAT OUTLET...
Has been for decades.

Perhaps it is just time to consider some BATTERY MAINTENANCE... cable and terminal cleaning
or even A REPLACEMENT battery.

I ASSURE you a cigar/cigarette lighter ELEMENT
pulls a lot more power than your Garmin Nuvi 1450LMT.

Get your JEEP battery checked...!!

It keeps shutting off

I would take a volt meter and make sure the voltage from the lighter plug is present where it enters the unit---the cig plug also has a fuse in it--no voltage would mean the battery not getting charged--those are good battery's and should last for years.

Magellan has fairly good customer service and may be able to help--rule out the no voltage reaching the unit for charging first--check the socket first and then the out to the unit second.

Overloaded my inverter -now only works when hooked to car battery

It sounds like the fuse that protects you cigarette lighter is blown.

After you have replaced the fuse, check the voltage again. 0.015vdc would not have powered anything that in manufactured to operate on 12vdc.

When powering anything over about 250W, I would suggest connecting directly to the battery to avoid overloading the lighter circuit.

My garmin does not operate plugged in to my car nor by battery

You have not said why that is....

Have you fully charged the battery prior to using in the car?

Using the power from the 12v plug in a vehicle will not "charge" the internal battery, but tends to maintain it somewhat. If the fuse in the end of the 12v connector plug is blown and the battery in the unit is low then this will cause the unit to shut down or fail to fire up.

Please check both, the units battery level and the fuse in the cig lighter plug and the plug that connects the unit to the cig lighter outlet.

Now the second half of your statement:

Nor by my battery

It is either not charged ( AC charger) or it has reached the end of its life which if used correctly is about 2 years. If the life of battery is shortened , then it is by a common practice of misuse. This misuse is to have the unit plugged to the car 12v when staring the engine.

1) it damages the battery life
2) It can and does damage the SIIRF chip, which is responsible for connecting to the satellites

I suggest that if it does not charge over a 10 hours Max period to its full state, then replace the battery immediately to avoid damage to the electronics from battery leak.

My Garmin Nuvi (200 I think) freezes..

My recomendation is to use the original accesory for cigarete lighter. I'll give you an example: when I connect my Nuvi 200 to any other USB cable (computer or home charger) its behaviour is like you said - it "says" that is connected to a computer and remains in stand by. But when I connect it to cigarette lighter (but note - the original one) the nuvi 200 recognize it as a car power source and works. The battery symbol disappear from screen and it works perfectly. When I turn off the engine or simply unplug the device from cigarette lighter (not from nuvi !) it recognizez that and ask me if I want tu turn it off on remains on on own battery. If I make no option the nuvi will turn off automatically after some seconds. So it recognize perfectly the car adapter and its behaviour is adapted to a car.

Garmin Nuvi shuts itself off after only seconds during navigation

Is the battery charged? What does the battery indicator say? If you are using it in the car, is the power cord connected and working properly? If it is working correctly, you should see a lightning bolt symbol over the battery bar graph showing that it is connected to an external power source and that it is charging.
