The sound on both my old IBM laptops (T40 & X31) no longer work.

It seems that I lost the sound on both laptops at approximately the same time. I have checked drivers, they seem to be the right ones. I have disabled and reinabled the sound on both and still no sound. Please help me I am at my witts end.

Dagr81, on the T40 I lost sound on a rebuild. While on the X31, I lost sound on an already established build. But thank you.

Technomad, I have no sound from the Jacks either. But thank you.

Is this lost of sound a common thing for IBM Thinkpads? Does anyone have any ideas what might make me lose sound on both my T40 and X31? It doesn't seem to be a conflict. I ran a repair but that didn't work. I can rebuild, but I misplaced my Office 2003 disk and would only be able to reinstall with Office 2000. I don't like Office 2007.

There has to be something else. All driver software seems to be properly installed. I need some help out there. There is a video streaming on Hulu that I am dying to see.

Try pressing the sound up button on the top of the keyborad. There are 3 buttons sound up, sound down and mute. It appears that the sound control on windows is independant of the buttons.

A lot of older laptops will have issues with the sound because of speaker failure. You can check your laptop by plugging an earphone into the earphone jack, and checking for sound. If you hear the sound through the earphone, your laptop speakers are bad.

THE INTERNET

Uninstall your wireless NIC and restart your computer, that will reset your card. If that dosent work, get a external Wireless card and hook a antenna to increase your signal, which also might be your problem. Or just pay for internet?
