I have also the same problem. When we play a tape with footage it plays back fine, but when I try to record new footage it is a black screen with all the settings showing and the lens cap on warning. I have no idea what is wrong or who to have look at it. Sometimes it cost more to have them repaired than to buy a new one. Please help if you have any advice!

about the rca cc415 it would be nice to know if there is also no picture out the audio/ video jacks this would tell if there was a problem just in the viewfinder or a more major problem in the ccd imager drive circuit. Most likely problems are bad capacitors , however I have had a bad video amp transistor in the viewfinder unit.

Are you able to view the image perfectly fine via the view finder? Or is that image also entirely black?

I have the same issue with a samsung model the LCD went out because of folding it back and forth so much it started to create havoc in the lcd screen. It blacked out but when you played it on a regular screen it looked perfectly fine.

The only concern I have for you is that once this happens the rest of the model might start to go awry which mine did also. Take precautions and it might be time to start searching into another model within the next few months or possibly even years.

My samsung lasted me for 4yrs but i barely even used it after that issue. It adventually got even worse w/other issues even though i barely used it that i just sold it to someone to scrap it out to fix something else wrong with their cam.

Good luck :)

This is a "lens cap" problem. JVC repair this problem free.

Viewfinder and LCD screen only show black and record black

If camcorder shows old recorded tapes picture with correct colors in LCD but does not show live view in camera mode to record new movie then its ccd imager chip failure.
And if camcoder shows live view and old recorded tapes in its eye piece view finder but does not show any thing in LCD the its problem of broekn/ cracked flexible wire between lcd board and main board of camcorder.
Let me know your finding with bit detail to provide you solution/ helpful info.

Shooting mode shows nothing.

Hello,

I just had this issue with my camera (my 15 year old son solved it for me ;-) ).

The viewfinder was active in "record" mode and the LCD was "active" because you could see a little back light but no image. The "playback" mode would let me review pictures in the LCD though so I know it is capable of showing information.

If you push the display key/button a couple of times you can see the picture move from the viewfinder to the LCD and have just a picture and or a picture and information.

So try setting the camera to "record" mode (lens comes out) and then push the "display button" which is on the back of the camera just to the right of the LCD on the lower right side several times and see if the LCD starts to work.

It could be that somehow the display button was pushed by mistake.

Sony TRV-19 Camcorder - Black screen in camera mode

Fixed it, at least temporarily I had the side off my trv250 examining it, especially the CCD connection. I had read the post about soldering a capacitor to pins 1 and 3 (from the left) on the bottom row. I didn't have the specific capacitor on hand, but I started touching some of the small ones I did have to those pins. I found that after I touched a 100uF, 10V cap to pins 1 and 3 the picture suddenly came back to life and stayed that way after removing the cap. I have no idea how long this will last, and I've set up the cam on a tripod in the livingroom with the LCD display facing me so I can monitor it. If you, like me, figure you have nothing else to lose, you might want to give this a try. Note: my camera was suffering from the green smeary horizontal lines problem, and wasn't completely black. I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not.
