It sounds like you diagnosed it.
The tray "paper detect sensor" thinks it has paper in it, and if it doesn't have paper in it...there's a problem with the sensor.
Take the tray off and inspect the sensor. Blow out around the sensor and it's PCB and make sure it is not out of position. Check the sensor lens for anything blocking it, and retest. If it still shows always on, then replace the sensor. Press the "count only" button to illuminate it, and press the "start" button. If the scanner works properly (tray lifts, pulls paper through the scanner, and counts it)...well then you have software or connectivity issue.

Hope that helps,

SOURCE: Paper tray at front of scanner will not lift.

Disconnect the scanner from the Comp, Try 'page counting'. If the papers go through, then you know feed mechanism is okay. if the tray is not lifting, then you have a problem. Use Qumatool software and check if the tray is lifting. If the scanner tray if lifting then the motor is okay, if not, the lifting motor may need a check. If the motor is okay, but tray not lifting means the sensor in the paper tray is faulty. Check this out.

SOURCE: canon DR-3080c scanner, tray wont lift and says

Hello,

A scanner will jam for any number of reasons: It's dirty, the wrong paper type is being used, or the rollers on the scanner that feed the paper through its pathway are worn down. While cleaning the printer periodically and using the correct paper type are easy fixes, but thuis are not the the problem, it means the roller is worn out and will need to be replaced.

Take care.

Canon dr9080c wont scan to the guide plate width in ScanFile - Is this a sensor problem & where would the sensor be as there are many!!

Remove the paper tray, remove the cables carefully. If you turn tray upside down, you will notice screws, remove them carefully. clean the 'golden finger' and ensure there are no staple pins. (Staple pins alter the circuitry). The gear wheel and the paper guide must be placed correctly so that it moves freely.

Hello, i have a Problem with my Canon dr 9050c. If the scanner starts the paper-tray move correct up and down. If the Scanner get a Scanjob from pc than the tray don't lift up. it sounds like the motor...

There are a set of gears that convert motor rotation into lifting of the tray. Check if the gears are aligned properly. Any stapler pin jammed inside can stop the gear, while the motor pushes it forward. This will create noise. Very unlikely that these motors fail. Also clean the paper sensor in the tray.

DR-6080 not recognised after reloading Windows 7 (32-bit) on laptop. Re-installed latest driver (says Win7 supported) successfully but still won't work, Anything?

Disconnect the scanner from the computer. Uninstall driver software, shut down and restart the Comp. Reinstall the driver. (http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0036991.asp?model= ). connect the scanner and the system will report USB device plugged in. This should work.

Hi, I scan documents (recto and recto-verso) using the InformatikScan software and the scanner Canon DR-9080C. When I scan for ex. 30 pages, after 10 pages the scanning process slows down in...

The scanner creates a Raster Image and if it is grey or color, the size is big. After a few images are scanned, the 'buffer' inside the scanner is full. It may take more time to process the scanned image by the scanner if it is 24 bit color. The image is sent to the computer Harddisk and if the disk is full or if it had not been defragged for a long time, the sectors may not be contiguous for speedy writing, This will slow up the scanning. Ensure the disk has large space. 'Scan ahead' slows down scanning speed. (Without scan ahead, the next page is fed only after processing, whereas when selected, just after the previous page is scanned, the scanner start the next one)

What should i do if the bottom section of the scanner wont go down so that i can insert pages to be scanned?

Irrespective of the position the tray has to go down on powering on. There is HP (Home position) sensor for the paper tray, under the tray. Check if it is okay. Also in the middle of the paper tray, there is a paper sensor, clean this with a damp cloth so that the does not 'assume' there is paper. If the scanner has paper, it will not go down.

Failure in initialization of Scanner. Scanner is offline or , scanner is turned off.

First check if the scanner is working in 'offline' mode by 'counting' a few pages.
Connect to the comp, if SCSI is the interface, you need to start the scanner first, if USB you can connect the scanner even after comp powering on. If the scanner is not recognised, reinstall driver software and scanning software.

I have a canon 6080 scanner. getting a error "no

Clean the two 'black dots' in the paper tray, just under the roller. They are actually paper sensors. Try 'page counting'. If this works, the scanner is okay. If the problem still persists, try reloading the scanning software.

Hi, When starting the scanner, the feeder goes up but then just stays there and doesnt come down.. Can you help what might be wrong?? Thanks

There is a sensor under the paper tray and when powered On, the tray goes to home position (HP). If the sensor has failed or slightly dislodged, you get this problem. Normally these sensors don't fail.

9080c fails to scan single page; has trouble scanning a batch.

Hi
what size page are you trying to scan, if they are smaller than the gap between the transport rollers, they will not feed.

the single sheet problem you have:- the scanner knows when there is paper to feed when the sensor is pushed up beside the pick roller and it will put the tray down again when the rollers are pushed up. sometimes the little plastic sensor to the left of the roller gets a bit stuck and needs to be freed, it wares itself out where it hinges inside the cover around the pick roller. just unclipping it and cleaning it is usually enough.

good luck.

I have a new DR-5010C scanner. I used to use the

I havent used Canon 2580C and hence cant comment on Scan Panel. But you can download SU5000 or Captureperfect 2.0 from Canon website (http://software.canon-europe.com/). This is easy to use and probably offers more features as compared to ScanPanel. Canon 5010C is a higher model as compared to 2589C and Captureperfect may offer better user interface.
