Try cleaning the heads, but it seems like the heads may be faulty, you might need to replace the vcr, they don't cost much these days, the repair might cost more than a new vcr these days.
You will need one RCA video cable it will have a yellow, red and white plugs. On the back of your VCR locate where the color inputs are find where it says VIDEO OUT hook it up there. On the back of the DVD Recorder look for the same color input jacks NOW find where it says VIDEO IN hook it up there. You may have to turn on your TV,DVD recorder and VCR to get the right channel. your Recorder may have one or more video inputs if it does turn on all three. Use the channel on your TV you use to watch DVDs make sure you see your DVD screen. Now to record to a DVD. Change the channel on the DVD Recorder. Look for the input channels It may be Video 1 Video 2 etc... depends on the inputs you have. ( A great way to tune your DVD Recorder is to play a prerorded VCR tape. Turn the channel on your DVD Recorder unil you see the prereorded tape playing. )
The blue indicates a lack of video signal. Try playing a pre-recorded tape to see if the unit will "read" a tape. If yes, then the record section of the VCR needs attention. You can ry cleaning the heads as well. If you are not getting sound either, then there is a different problem perhaps the incorrect input is being selected? It is possible that the internal switching is not happening correctly. Without seeing the unit and poking around inside, I can not say for sure, but try the cleaning and update this with any changes in symptoms.
you may have the outputs hooked up correctly however you may need to set the inputs to the selected type of cable you are using. S video 1 cable or video input witch is an rca adapter yellow in color. you will find these setting in the "setup section" on the remote set up button will get you there and then input or source.
there are guide posts that the tape goes around, they need to be adjusted if your good at that stuff take off cover and while playing tape be careful you could damage video head.with flat srew drive . adjust right post buy turning clockwise or counter clockwise. this could be hard i hope i helped , When i first started ny video shop 1987 we started doing only vcrs.
The video head also could be bad. thanks doctor video
When you are recording, do you hear the vhs tape(motor) moving? Is the tv\vcr combo connected to the same power(electrical) plug with ANYTHING else ? On the SAME wall outlet with anything that generates noise?. Do you have ANYTHING ( electric clock ) WITH a motor connected to the same line\wall\outlet\power adapter?
2nd) Any loose ground [wires that go to any menal part inside TV\VCR will cause problems. Be very carful inside electronics parts and when they are alive [pluged in & turned on], Some times loose VHS rubber bands cause problems by slipping and jerking the tape recording.
Because the cable signal is OK, this eliminates the tuner as your
problem and leaves the power supply which is a common problem. It
is a switch mode type which often have trouble maintaining control of
its output voltages and produce trouble downstream in the video
circuitry. Either the power supply is failing which can be
wholesale replaced for about a $150, or something somewhere else is
failing and loading down the supply causing it to overwork.
Usually in this case, you can hear a whine noise if you listen close.
