My vizio va26L is stuck in photo mode and I don't have a remote and turning it off doesn't work

You need the remote to get out of this mode.

could be just bad capacitors on the power supply board they tend to puff up on top and then several attempts of pressing the power buitton is required to finally get the set to power up.

^_^ Those answers are only for new remote but that's not the only way, There trying to ask in another way with out a remote.

The instructions on letting the Hipi remote to seach for the code that came with my remote are not correct. I used the instructions from HOWTO.COM and printed below. There are two changes from the printed instructions. The first is to push the <TV> button after the <Code Search> button. The second is that the <Enter> button saved the code not the <MUTE> button.

Instructions

Turn on the Vizio TV.

Aim the Jumbo Universal Remote at the Vizio TV and hold down the "Code Search" button on the remove for roughly 3 to 5 seconds. The LED lights on the Jumbo Universal Remote will come on.

Press the "TV" button at the top of the Jumbo Universal Remote.

Start pressing the "ON/OFF" button repeatedly until the Vizio TV turns off. (This took only a few tries for my Vizio TV)

Press "Enter" on the remote immediately after the Vizio TV turns off to save the code.

Test the Jumbo Universal Remote by trying to control the Vizio TV with the remote. If the control doesn't work with the remote, repeat the entire process.

If you are sure the TV is plugged in, then there can only be a few other remaining reasons why the TV won't turn on.

1. 5V low or high voltage power supplies are burned out.
2. Entire power supply is burned out.

Order it and install it yourself, if you believe you can. Or take the part and the TV to a local TV Repair Shop to have it installed for you.

Stuck in WIDE? Me too. Based on the info below, from VIZIO support website, I think the TV defaults and locks on WIDE if you use an HDMI connection. You have to interpret the language a little bit, but he last sentence seems to imply that the TV automitically displays WIDE.

Aspect Ratio Aspect ratio refers to the images height vs. the images width. The current industry standards for this are 4:3 which square and 16:9 which is more of a horizontal rectangle shape. Most all television broadcasts are 4:3 except for high definition broadcasts. Due to the resolutions required for high definition it will always be broadcast in 16:9.
