Power Light Is Red, Internet Light Is Green, Other Lights Off

I have the GT704WG and I was on the internet one night, then all of a sudden the power light turned orange and the wireless light went out, but the DSL and Internet lights remained on. So after a while I turned it off, the next day when I turned it back on, the power light stays red, with No DSL light, The Internet light is Green, the Ethernet lights blink every 10 secs, but theres no Wireless Light.

I just had the same Problem - the RED Power light stays on. This happened at midnight on 4/12/09. My ISP told me the Actiontec GT704WG died and is out of warranty. They said I would have to buy a new one - from Verizon since "if you buy another manufacturer's modem/router, our Tech Support can not guarantee support since we didn't provide it." Good Luck....

  • Anonymous Apr 13, 2009 Actiontec GT704WG did the exact same thing on 4/11/09 at about 4pm. Wonder how many more out there mysteriously quit working?

I have the same problem. The power light is RED and won't change to green. On the phone for over an hour with Verizon. They came up with the conclusion that the modem is bad and I need to buy a new one for $65.00 from them. No warranty past 3 months. Nothing else they would do, but give me credit for the days I am without internet and they said it could be days and days.

Bad PR, slow anyway, I am now in the process of going to Charter 10 meg.

Same problem, although I think mine went out on 4/13/2009.

Try to turn the Actiontec gateway off then after a minute, turn it back on. If the power light remains RED, press and hold the RESET button for about a minute again. If the Power light remains RED, the problem is that the Actiontec 704WG Gateway that you have is Defective already.

Check cable connections.

Try unplugging router from power for five minutes.

If that does not work call Internet Service provider to check if there is a problem with their server.

I am trying to hook up to my new comp. and new internet and the lights come on for the wireless, wired and router r green then the modem light is red, what am i doing wrong

There is nothing wrong with your modem. There are modems that when you turn it on, the wireless, dsl lights are green while the power light is red then after a few seconds, the green lights disappear and the red light will turn green. After sometime green light will come back on. This means your modem is restarting and doing a self check.
If the power light stays red, then you a have a problem with your modem.

Red power light on our 3-year-old Actiontec router

If the power light is red, it means that the router is already defective.

You can still try to reset the router by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds then power cycle it.

If the power light is still red then you will really need to replace your router.

When power switch is turned on the Power light is rapidly flashing & the 4 Ethernet lights are flashing. The box is Actiontec GT704wg

I do not have a solution to the problem. However, I am having the same problem. This morning the Actiontec GT704WG power and ethernet lights were rapidly flashing. The modem was non-functional. I could not even connect to the modem through the browser to see if I could find a problem.

The problem lasted a couple of hours. Then all of a sudden the modem started working again. I won't be able to tell if the problem recurs until I restart the modem. And if the problem does occur again, I won't be able to connect to the internet.

The LED lights

might be possible that from the backend you are not getting internet signal .....
but you can follow these steps

fist of all click on to start then go to run and in run type in cmd and then hit ok

then you will get a black window named command promt ...

in command promt type ipconfig then hit enter

check the ip address and default gate way just make sure that you donot have these numbers

ip - or 169.
and default gateway 0..0.0.0

if you have this then it seems that your computer is not getting any kind of internet signals it might be ,either you are not getting internet signal from backed or your modem need to be reconfigured .or you need to hard rest the modem ......i would suggest you to call your isp and try to take help from them in configuring the modem ,,,,,if they are able to solve your issue then well and good if not then you can contact me on fixya or on my email address

2Wire 473 router problem

Take the modem and plug it into a GFCI outlet. You can find one in the bathroom or the kitchen.

If the power light comes on solid green and the dsl comes on red then the modem is good. Was it plugged into a power strip by the computer? If so, plug it straight into a wall outlet.

If the power light comes on solid red then the modem has hardware failure. I would contact your ISP and have them replace it if it is still underwarranty.

Actiontec (GT704WG) Wireless Router Lights

Yes, this is normal. The flickering lights are showing activity - data is being transferred when the light is on, and vice versa. The power light should always be on when the unit has power. The DSL light should be solid as long as your DSL line is connected properly.

Connection t othe internet....

If this modem was provided with your initial setup of Verizon Internet, it's possible that is has Verizon firmware, and defaults to connections in their domain (which you are no longer authorized for, I'd assume).

That's just a guess on my part. Knowing where the GT704WG showed up, and who provided it for you might fill in a little more detail to the scenario. Good luck!
