Acer aspire 2930 DVD player only opens some dvds

My dvd player opens some dvds but not others, eg, i can play a brand new version of batman the dark knight but it wont play and brand new version of green street. batman opens up right away and the dvd drive makes the correct noises, but green street doesnt open, it just starts spinning and then stops and starts spinning constantly as if it keeps trying to load it. The dvds are all the correct reigion (region 2). Ive got it set up to open in windows media centre but have also tried the same with windows media player. the dvd drive is called DVD- super multi DL and the laptop is only 1 month old and has never had any damage caused whatsoever. I have windows vista home edition. All other types of cds work like audio, software and games, but just not some dvds. the dvds are in perfect working order and ive tried a brand new one today which wont open.

If you meet the issue of Windows Media Player won't play DVD, this is because Windows has dropped its support to provide Windows Media Player's built-in DVD codec for Windows 10 and above. You can install dvd codec or try some other DVD player program such as Leawo Blu-ray Player which is free

Try Media player classic under k-lite codec pack. Then open video files on the dvd. If it doesn't help try another codec player. If nothing helps could it be that dvd player is not capable of multilayer dvd reading.

Hi,MY ACER 4720 Dont play any DVD but playing cd /copying CD is fine. When i checked its property,Driver shows as CD ROM driver.i did not find any dvd driver.Could anyone help

The DVD player may be set to a Region that does not match the Region code on the DVDs.
To changethe Region code on your DVD player, open Control Panel - System - Hardware -Device manager, and click on DVD/CD ROM drives, then right click on the DVDdrive and click Properties then click on DVD Region.
You can enter a new region and it also shows you how many changes have beenmade.
NOTE you can make only 4 changes and the player will lock permanently on the4th change.
If you want to play DVDs from any region you maybe able to upgrade the firmwareto make it region free BUT if you make a mistake or installed the wrongfirmware the player will be a piece of junk.
The best solution to make the player region free is to install a piece ofsoftware that allows you to play DVDs from any region. There are severalavailable on the Internet but my favourite is DVD-Region Free From: -

Got acer aspire notebook with combodrive.it plays all dvds except all ntsc hindi songs dvd.it does not even recognize a dvd in drive.

if you want to play any of the thousands of DVDs imported from any of the other FOUR REGIONS? You need to make your DVD player (or your Windows PC or Mac) REGION FREE, try download region-free software to unlock your DVD player, and make it can play ntsc hindi songs.

Good luck!

Compaq DVD Player problem

You need a new DVD codec. If you have a copy of WinDVD, give it an install. Otherwise, try the free codec on www.divx.com.

Drive can't read DVD

Jeff - If you have not changed your software configuration in any way since the last time you could successfully play a DVD, it could be that the drive has failed. You can test this most easily by taking these DVD's that won't play in your Acer now, and play them in another good computer, or a regular home DVD player. If they play in your other systems/players, you will see right away. And if the machine is that new, you might be able to get it easily fixed under your manfuacturer's warranty.

If you have made any kind of changes to your system software that could affect your dvd burner, that could cause it to not recognize them perhaps, as well. By changes I mean - installing some kind of alternative dvd playing software than what came with your machine, etc. If you did not make any software changes, it is likely a hardware problem.
