Retractable power cord

The power cord no longer retracts. How do I take the machine apart to get at and fix the power cord so that it will retract? I posted this problem earlier and on August 20 received this response from Buffalo 12980: "The trim pieces along the sides just pull off separating the two housings. The back portion where the retract drum is is held by two plastic tangs on top inside. Use a screwdriver to pry the ring down to dislodge the tangs. The bottom part will lift off. Remove the front part using two screws just below the hinge. The retract has a long coil spring wound around a free spinning hub. There are two "tangs" inside that engage a ratchet-pawl assembly. You'll need to rotate the drum to rewind the spring onto its hub." My problem is that I cannot get past the first step. I am able to pull off the rubber bumpers but not the bumper tracks. I assume that the bumper tracks are what is meant by "the trim pieces." The tracks are held in place by the back section of the machine, where the power cord is meant to be housed. How do I remove the back section? Any additional help you can provide will be much appreciated. Thanks again. Tyaq

JUST LIFT OFF THE TOP HALF. CAREFULLY REACH IN FROM THE LEFT SIDE AND DISCONNECT THE CLEAR PLASTIC HOSE THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE "DIAL" ON TOP OF THE MACHINE. THEN LAY THE TOP HALF OF THE MACHINE TO THE RIGHT. DON'T DISCONNECT ANY WIRES. YOU'LL HAVE TO HAVE A NEW CORD WINDER (LOOK ON E-BAY). THE MOTOR AND CORD WINDER ARE ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER BY WIRES AND CAN BE LIFTED OUT OF THE CANISTER.EVERYTHING YOU DO JUST REMEMBER THAT ALL OF THESE PARTS ARE ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER BY WIRES. THE ONLY WIRES YOU'LL NEED TO DISCONNECT ARE THE ONES ATTACHED TO THE CORD WINDER ASSEMBLY. THEY JUST PULL OFF, NO TOOLS ARE NEEDED.
QUITE FRANKLY THIS IS A ROYAL PAIN AND YOU'LL PROBABLY WISH YOU TOOK IT TO A REPAIR (AERUS/ELECTROLUX) SHOP. IF YOU DECIDE TO DO IT YOUR SELF TAKE PICTURES OF EVERY STEP...'CAUSE YA GOTTA PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER.
GOOD LUCK!

Those trim pieces SLIDE off by opening the front where the bag goes, Take a pair of pliers and slide them out. You might have to use a screwdriver to help initiate the grabbing of the slide.

One additional point: the bumper tracks slide out towards the back (i.e. power cord) end of the machine, not the front (i.e. the bag

How do I take apart my Sunbeam clothes iron?

There's almost always a screw in the back (heel) of the iron, just behind where the cord enters. It might be a Torx or clutch head vs, straight or Phillips.

Bissell momentum canister vacuum retractable electrical cord not retracting

Either the cord inside is caught on something or the retraction spring is broken.
Try to pull it out further, if you can feel any spring-back then most likely the cord is caught, maybe on itself.
Either way, the canister will probably have to be disassembled to fix the problem.

Repair retractable cord

Depending on which model of Electrolux you have and how far out you have pulled out the cord (most of the Electrolux canisters have a yellow tape around the machine end of the cord to alert you not to pull it out any further), you might have to take it apart to fix it. However, the first thing that I would try would be to stand it on the end (the hose end at the top), and pull short jerks on the cord to see if it will correct itself and retract. If that does not fix it, I would stick a screwdriver in the hole where the cord comes out of the machine and attempt to wind the cord reel back up which will slowly wind the cord back up on the cordwinder. This usually cause the cord to wind back up. If that does not work, then the only option is to take the machine apart to fix it.

The retractable cord is all the way out and won't go back into the machine! How do we get the machine apart to fix this problem?

You shouldn't have to. Simply tilt the machine to 45 degree angle and gently tug and release the cord. From my own experience, this almost always works. It's possible it's due to a broken part, but not likely.
Also, the vacuum should still be under warranty. If it's disassembled by anyone other than an authorized Aerus Electrolux servich tech, the warranty is voided.

Retractable cord

I'm assuming that you have bought the new retractable cord assembly. If you have so, I believe the cord should retract going counter-clock wise (pulling it makes it spin clockwise).
