From what you describe, your 40GB should be compatible with Tecra 9100. I'd suggest you reset the BIOS settings to the factory defaults, just to ensure there are no wierd settings.
Have you managed to use any other HDD with your Tecra 9100 previously?
Have You checked for a BIOS update for this model / vintage ?
have a toshiba tekra 9100..the problem is that it when i turn it on it indicates that its on but the screen remains off when i try it after a while it manages to turn on bu wont boot sometimes it displaysi/o channel error or it sometimes gets past that but pauses when loading the o.s .what could be the solution for this problem
Try please,
Start, control panel, system, device manager, sounds video and games controllers,
click this, then double click sub category, enter in, driver tab, roll back if poss, then search the internet for one, wait till completed, reboot
This means that your laptop does not have the display drivers installed. Check you check in the control panel, go to system icon and click on device manager? Check to see what VGA drivers are installed.
