When I turn the key to start my boat the starter turns over and the boat starts but when the key springs back to the neutral position the engine quits. if I hook a positive side lead from the battery to the purple wire side of the solenoid then it starts and runs. I changed out the key switch but it still acts the same.

SOURCE: Searay 270 SLX wont turn over

were the batteries stored outside in winter ? if so check to see if there is any bulging on the sides... they may have froze which will require replacement .... either way do you have a method to check the voltage under load (starting) as that will show you the try condition of the batteries

SOURCE: I have a 150 hp outboard Mercury that is

Part of the problem was apparently of my own making. Number one, have to remember to check the safety switch located right below the throttle area. The toggle was kicked to the OFF position. May have hit it while wiping down the console in preperation for taking to the water. Once I found the problem, still had an issue with getting gas to the carbs. I pulled the quick connect of the primer system off where it connects to the engine and had to bleed multiple times to get air out and could see gas coming through the glass filter cleanly. Boat started on the second time over. Just like always did for me. Took to lake and runs fine now.

SOURCE: have 1975 Merc 115 h.p. motor. won't turn over with key

it may be your neutral safety switch. Try it again but this time turn the key with one hand and wiggle the throttle/shifter lever at the same time. My 25 johnson does this, but usually I can wiggle the shifter and she'll turn over. Hope this helps.

Outboard motor 2006 F75 Yamaha tlr won't try to start even when turning the key

Make sure your shifter cable isn't out of adjustment . It must be in true neutral position on the engine and not advanced out of position. All boats have a safety feature that either cuts power to the starter or the spark plug and fuel pump. There are is a little adjustment room on either end of the cable . If you are in sure disconnect the cable at the engine and move the leaver on the engine to neutral . Then try and start up. The other issue that is over looked is a bad kill switch on the shifter or a corroded and or loose battery wire at the battery or at the engine.

Is there a kill switch on my mercury inboard outboard Moyer if so where is it

There is a micro switch in the control box to make sure boat is in neutral. Check first at the starter for power at the small wire when the key is in the start position. Also a breaker on the engine, has a red button in center, making sure it hasn't tripped.

Engine wont turn over and no lights with key in accesory position

What about with the key in the on position -do the warning lights and gauges turn on? That would mean the ignition switch has power and can turn on.
Any theft alarm activated, immobilizing the car?
Won't turn over- you mean won't start or the starter won't spin the engine over? If it won't start, ignition spark or fuel problem. If the engine won't crank, problem is in the start circuit- from battery to starter, and from battery to ignition switch to starter. Park/neutral safety switch is in circuit between key switch and starter.

2006 Ford taurus won't start, starter, altlernator, battery replaced, ignition starter switch, neutral safely switch changed, still nothing

I looked at info for your security system, it is starter motor disable. I didn't see 06 ford Taurus in my database, so I looked at 05.
Battery has a full charge and battery connections all good?
We can usually do some tests to see if starter motor will crank the engine, but, if the security is the problem, it still won't start.
You can check for applicable trouble codes? Try a different key?

Turn igintion switch, engine won't start

Has anyone checked to see if you have power at the starter when the key switch is in the start position ?
Could be several things including the battery, cables, starter, neutral safety switch, or key switch.

How to adjust neutral safety switch

Usually neutral safety switches have asmall hole that a pin goes in, and then on install the shifter is placed in a position, like neutral, based on the switch positioning.

HOWEVER, I suspect that yours is installed, so I suggest plan B. FOOT ON BRAKE, turn key to on, move shifter into R.

Turn key to start, and slowly move shifter towards neutral.... Note exactly the shifter position when starter fires off, and release key, no start needed.

Then, do the same thing from Drive, move shifter towards N, with key in start position.

What you want is no start in either R or D, you knew that...And adjust neutral safety switch to "center" the starter actuation, preferably not until well into N, but that is not adjustable...

So, final is key to start position, test from Low, 2, d as you move shifter.... finally, you get start in N.

turn off.

Place in R, turn key to start and move towards Park, and you should have the starter fire off after out or R.

Hope this helps, that is what is involved.

Starter neutral switch is not functioning causing the engine to n

hi from uk the switch you mention is called the inhibitor switch which prevents cars engine from being started if in gear but allows starts only if in either neutral or park mode question? do you hear click on key start position? or just nothing? may i suggest you check the starter solenoid which is on starter and has positive cable from starter attached along with a thinner cable? also you will/should see a thin wire also connected to the solenoid on a seperate teminal this is the wire from key start ign switch and when key turned to start energises the starter into operation /turn engine ensure this wire is clean/secure? one other thing to check is the earth/ground lead that runs from chassis/body and connects to engine usually in vicinity of rear of engine? all above is assuming that your battery is ok?? hope this helps?
