SOURCE: sd locking
I had this problem also. To solve the problem I blew into the slot where the card goes and it then read the card. If dirt gets into the port it causes the sd card to lock. You may have to use a pressurized can of eletronic spray to clean the port.
It worked for me.

Here is a link to the manual you need. You will need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer to view it. If you don't have this do a google search for Adobe Reader. It is a free download.

1) This camera accepts SD cards up to 4 GB in capacity. Most 4 GB SD cards however, are "SDHC" types (check the label to determine which type you are using). If you are using a 4 GB "SDHC" card, it may be causing the problem, as it is not an "SD" card. Furthermore, any card greater than 4 GB is not compatible with the camera. Any SD card with a capacity less than 4 GB should work without issue.
2) Check the position of the lock or "protect" tab on the side of a compatible SD card to be sure it is in the unlock position. The camera will be unable to write to a locked or protected card.

check small switch on side of SD card; should be pushed toward contacts.Using the USB cable provided with cam, PC SHOULD RECOGNIZE DEVICE...might have to go thru windows explorer to find it, then use windows media player, or other, to open.
You are running 98 or later, right?
Hopefully you have the receipt...take it back. An issue with this camera.
